The 'weather leg'. Commonly used by many to try and regulate their body temperature and cool down a bit while trying to sleep without having to actually remove the whole blanket. And after flopping my weather leg out and back under the blankets probably 100 times last night, I was wondering who else here does the weather leg, or other weather body parts? It doesn't necessarily have to be your way of evening out the temperature, I sometimes do it just because otherwise my legs feel trapped (I know it sounds silly) and I'll get really antsy. How about the rest of you?
Do you weather leg?

We just had a discussion about this on a friend's post at Facebook, too. Several of us do it - Florida is one of those places where it's almost a population 'tic'.

I do it almost all the time, it's almost always a leg. I first heard about it about 10 years ago and never really realized that I had always done it until then.
10/04/2010
Usually it's just my feet and only when it's warm out. If it's cold, then I'm a total cocoon.
10/04/2010
Depending on how hot I am its whole leg to foot. My best friend and I decided it is the scientific way to control sleep temperatures LOL
I have done this since I was little.

I usually do one or both legs depending on how hot I am.

Your feet are filled with blood vessels - that's why when your feet are cold - you're whole body is - and vise-versa. In the summer I'll run cold water over my feet before bed - I swear it reduces my body temp by a couple degrees.
So yes when I need to be covered - but get a little hot, I'll poke out a foot to moderate the temp. Rarely need more than one foot exposed to cool down.
I didn't understand the voting - can't figure out if it was just a bunch of mis-spellings or I just don't get the lingo.

I have back problems so I always sleep with a pillow in between my legs. That usually entails sticking one out of the blanket I like to be covered for the most part, though.

I move a lot when I have a hard time to sleep so the weathering occurs then not according to the actual weather.

Unless I'm really cold, I usually have my right foot, and sometimes the leg up to my knee, sticking out. It lets the air circulate, or something.
10/05/2010
I'm so glad to know that I am not the only person who does this! And that there is an actual NAME for it. I've found it to be the best way to regulate my body temperature.
10/05/2010
Spring, summer, fall, winter...it doesn't matter. I'm bundled up to the max!
10/05/2010
I do this!! I didnt realize it had a name...

Probably a lingo thing, I've had a similar conversation with my mom and aunts and had to explain it a little bit too. Either way, I'm very sorry if I caused you any confusion

I didn't know it had a name, but yeah, I do this all the time. I've heard that your body needs to drop a degree or two in temp before you can sleep. I think that's generally during the warmer months, though.
10/05/2010
I do it. I sleep the same every night, but I've never heard of weather leg and will never use that "term".
10/05/2010
Sometimes I stick a foot out when it's real hot, otherwise I stay wrapped up. I HAVE to be covered to sleep, though.
10/05/2010
I sometimes have only half my body covered but i have to have the ability to cover up or I won't be able to sleep.
10/05/2010
When it is hot I weather my butt, other times I am covered.
10/05/2010
usaully it is my foot/feet, but when it gets really hot, mostly my whole body, but the hip area
10/06/2010
Yes, yes, yes. I've always done this. In fact, most people I know do this, haha. Most of the time though, I HAVE to have covers on me, so I always try to make it cold so that I can stay covered up.

Why not "Thermo Limb" (as in thermostat).

I never really thought of that. My dad had used the term 'weather leg' a while back and that's just what I've called it since, lol

There's usually a leg out at my boyfriend's place coz it's super hot in his apartment all year round AND he's a furnace-type man who can warm a bed like no other. At my place I'm totally a cocoon, it's freezing.

I'm always way too cold!
02/27/2011
I do this especially in the summer. Not so much in the winter when its really cold.
02/27/2011
I do it all the time. It's probably the reason why I have so much sleeping in a sleeping bag.
02/27/2011
I always sleep with my feet outside of the blanket. Doesn't matter how hot or cold it is.
