I think it's ok if there's a legit reason, but I also think the more cars on there are on the road, the more dangerous it becomes for kids (and parents) walking from door to door. I try to not drive through housing plans on Halloween unless necessary, out of respect for the increased pedestrians!
Do you think it is wrong to drive your kids house to house while they go to the door without you to collect Halloween candy?

Out in my neighbourhood there are few houses that celebrate Halloween and they're stretched out throughout the area. Many people drive door to door because the gaps between the houses are so large.

It's not wrong. Each situation is different and you never know the inner workings of a family is you're not part of it. I would take my kids to the door trick or treating unless I was otherwise unable to physically but it's not up to me to judge what others might do. My dad always took me out but he can't take my youngest sis out now cause his knees are full of arthritis, but he's the greatest dad.

what's the point in driving them if you don't stay with them?

I totally agree with your opinion on smothering parents. I just don't think America needs more obese kids who don't ever walk anywhere. When I was a kid, only the laziest kids were seen being driven around by their parents. Everyone else just walked. Though I was raised in a small town and the whole town was basically a huge neighborhood. There wasn't a long way between houses and there wasn't a lot to worry about either.

As I said before, one has no idea why a parent does this. If one doesn't have kids, or has never been sick or disabled on Halloween but still wants the kids to have fun, they may not understand why parents do certain things. As I've said in myriad posts, "I was once a perfect parent... then I had kids." Parenting is NOT something that should be judged by non-parents. They are, for all intents and purposes, clueless to what it takes to raise children. What one thinks one will do "If I had a kid" is usually totally different than what one ends up doing in a lot of situations.
Of course, weather permitting, children over the age of 8 or so should be able to T or T without a parent in most neighborhoods. My problem with it (in good weather) is that the parent [italic|feels they need to be there, even if the child is well old enough to walk around the neighborhood with friends without a parent "supervising" what should be a night FOR kids to be kids. less

o.O Are you saying kids just shouldn't Trick or Treat at all? If it's an event that everyone's doing, I don't think it qualifies as begging.

When I was a kid we would go every few blocks and hop in the car when we got too cold. In chicago a lot of the time it was already snowing during halloween, so my parents would follow in the car with the heat blasting.
