Do you still have a land-line telephone?

Yup, my home still has a landline phone. But, when I move out, I'm only going to have my cell on me. I don't think I'm going to get a landline when I move into an apartment either.

I still have a landline, yes. I live in an area that doesn't get great cell phone coverage, so landlines are must haves.

Cell phone only. I can't afford 2 phone bills, so we picked the one that was more important to us.

With cell phones as good as they are right now no point to have land line.

Haven't had one in years. It would be nice to not have to put your cell number down for everything! May get a land-line again in the future, and then change my cell number

we have thought about doing this, is it REALLY worth it?! Is it simple?

Ah, yeah, it does require jumping a few impossibly-technical hoops of installation. After that's all done, paying only $20 a year for phone service (including long distance) made it worth it all.
I thought about the Magic-Jack idea, but having the land-line available would still flooded our calls with mostly telemarketers as 'Rossie' said above! And the 'Do Not Call List' would work for only a year or two and they would be right back calling. We were paying about $30 per month only for land-line service; not counting long-distance call!

Besides, we do have neighbors to use their land-line phone, but there are more and more canceling their phones as well. We have 3 cell phones now in our household, so I guess we shouldn't worry about reaching someone in case of an emergency.

I do have a house generator in case we loose electrical power, so if we needed to use our computers or other electrical devices they will all work fine.

Installation requires paying very close attention - it's mostly online stuff. You will put out a bit of money to pay for the hardware (under $100, I think), but you'll be able to take the hardware with you if you travel (and keep the same number) and the service really is only $20 a year which includes unlimited long-distance in the US and you pick your own phone number. The only "trick" is that you have to dial the area code when calling out, even if you're calling someone down the street.

It's worked out well in our household. We don't get collector calls for people who don't live here (like our last land-line number), we don't get telemarketers, and the only people who have it are those we actually gave it to. Dad gets to take his cell phone to work and we still have a phone in the house that everyone can use.

We don't have a land line, but have to pay the phone company for DSL Internet. I use a cell phone otherwise.

I only have a cell, the only reason I would ever want a land line is for emergency calls. as far as using my cell for business and signing up for things I use a google service that gives me a new phone number that forwards to my actual cell number its free and allows me to give my number out if needed with the ability to block numbers.
