I don't know how we'd go about it though. Or how he can get licensed for this. Any suggestions? less

My dad owns one,but i don't use it. I have a sword if i want to defend myself.

I don't have one. I believe I am so weak I'd probably get it removed from my hands if I was attacked, and it would be used against me.

My fiance is a Gun Enthusiast. I, however, am like you...not a big fan. My fiance goes shooting with his friends and there should be a local gun class and Concealed Carry Weapon class (at least where we are). Check with local gun distributors, they may be able to tell you where to look. I would definitely encourage education on using and having guns before you become gun owners so that you are safe with them and prepared to use them if u ever need to. If you have kids in the home, I would advise you to get a lock safe or find some ways to keep it safe (including educating your children on the dangers of guns). My fiance and I had a lot of conversations about this topic, so I know that it is not an easy one and wish you luck!

no but would like to have one

I used to hate and fear guns many years ago. Until I met my boyfriend (my gun nut) who showed me how to shoot at a range. It was fun! I started with a .22 handgun and worked my way to a .45. It's crazy but I completely changed my mind. Once you know how to handle it you no longer fear it. At least it worked for me.

I would own one.

I don't shoot for sport. I've hunted deer. I still do on occasion. Both of my brothers hunt. We own land up in the country. I grew up around guns which is why I'm not afraid of them. I was taught at an early age what they do - what pulling a trigger means.
Having a gun and killing someone who comes into my home in order to harm me and mine is my right. I intend on exercising it.
Don't break into my house.
Hell, play it safe... don't even pull out in front of me in traffic!

I have a GLOCK 17 and everyone in my house knows how to use it. You have to remember that it's not guns that kill people but people who kill people. If you and your husband know how to properly operate, handle and store your gun then it's a safe as anything else in your home.

I want to collect old time ww2 guns.
06/15/2012
Better get one quick, if Obama is re-elected you won't be able to get one.
06/15/2012
If I had a gun I´d use it for hunting.

I've never really liked guns, but I know a lot about them surprisingly thanks to my ex. He adored them and taught me a lot about them.
I chose that I want one because there are some really fucked up people out there and frankly, I don't feel like any neighborhood is truly safe in my city. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

I own several and grew up around them. When I was young my dad showed me where they were and how to use them for safety but was very clear about how unsafe they could be and why NOT to play with them, so I always knew gun safety and was careful

2. "scared of a gun"...because of the "POWER THEY HOLD"? Let's put that one to rest. Take a BIG high powered rifle, a BIG handgun, a BIG Knife, a CHAIN SAW, a BASEBALL BAT, and A BIG broken bottle on your table (no children in the house please), and leave them there for a day, a week, a month, a year. Have any of them done you harm? Can any of them, laying there on a table, do you ANY harm? NOPE. No more then a BIG BOOK, a BIG BOX OF COOKIES or a pile of stuffed bunnies. There are INANIMATE OBJECTS with ZERO power. It is HUMANS in the use of a TOOL that gives it "power".
3. Now, take that same pile of objects, Rifle, Knife, Handgun, Chain saw, Baseball Bat..etc, and have a crazy bad person pick ANY ONE OF THEM...and threaten you with it? Can they do you harm? YES. Lot's of harm? YES. That is why they are EVIL.
4. Now, considering that SAME PILE of "stuff" on your table. If you have a BIG BAD GUY in your home....and they MIGHT have ANY of those objects of their own....would you A. Feel safer having NOTHING. B. Feel safer having one of those objects? If the answer is "one of those objects", then it is no longer an item of FEAR, but of SECURITY and COMFORT.
5. You NEVER want to need to use ANY of these objects for security, but IF you did, which would you RATHER have? THE GUN...be it rifle or pistol, of course.
6.SO...while you NEVER want to have to use either one, IF YOU DID, would you rather be LESS or MORE trained then the bad guy? Obviously MORE trained. AND...training equals CONTROL, not fear.
7. Thus, BUY NOTHING NOW. Go to a local POLICE SPONSORED safe shooting class or a LOCAL GUN RANGE self defense class. LISTEN, LEARN, LEARN, LEARN and then make up your mind.
8. If you DO get a gun, go PRACTICE. Do it for LIFE, do it for FUN, but do it. It is no less critical then taking drivers ed to drive a car (which can be FAR, FAR more lethal then a gun).
I would also, honestly, suggest a SELF DEFENSE class...ie. Karate, TaeKwonDO, Kung Fu..etc. Local community center class is FINE to start with. This will establish CONTROL, lessen fear and ground you in what you CAN do with your own hands. Combine that with a SAFE and TRAINED gun ownership...knowing SAFE RULES (like NO gun is kept in reach of children, EVER), and you can be FAR safer and FAR, FAR less fearful in life.
Best wishes.

Don't own any guns and don't really want any.
06/16/2012
no but I may want one
06/16/2012
I dont own one yet.
I have passed my class for concealed carry now all I have to do is get my permit and buy a gun.
It will make me feel safer knowing I can protect myself. But I sincerely hope I will never be in a situation where I have to use it.

I don't own one and don't want one. For every story you here about a gun being used to stop an intruder, there are two or three about someone accidentally getting shot. There are better ways to protect yourself, and the whole "if they have a gun there's no other weapon you can use" defense is pointless. If someone breaks into your house with a gun, you aren't going to get a shot at them. They'll be completely prepared and you won't be. I'm not completely anti-gun, but I really don't see a purpose outside of hunting, and I feel far less safe when I'm in a home where they're around.
07/10/2012
I don't want to shoot anyone but I do want to practice targeting things for fun.
07/10/2012
They scare the bejesus out of me, personally. And I'm not much worried about robbery, either. *shrug* Most home break-ins are committed by young people armed with a knife at worse.
07/10/2012
Guns are a big thing in my extended family and with one of my partners. We currently don't have any guns in the house. I personally don't want to own one myself right now because I know I don't know how to use them and that is just stupid to have something like that and not know how to use it properly.
07/12/2012
I dont own a gun but I would like to try hunting but if I was going to go hunting I would use a Bow.
