I was making a quick video on my phone for my boyfriend tonight - No, not THAT kind of video - I bought him 4 new shirts and couldn't wait to show him and it was just easier than sending pics of 4 shirts front and back. And playing it back, I realized I HATE my voice (yes, I narrated t-shirts). I've also never been able to stand it on answering machines, voicemail, even in a microphone when I used to sing. I'm hoping when I get a webcam this won't stand in the way of my doing video reviews. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me being a bit of a freak again?
Do you like your own voice?

I still don't overly like hearing my voice played back on anything, mostly because I sit there and go "holy crap, is that what I really sound like?" But after having done so many video reviews I've pretty much gotten used to it and sort of like being able to point out (even if it's just to myself) when I was getting over a cold or something, lol

I voted Other because I wouldn't say I can't stand it, but I'm not totally fond of it. I don't like hearing it playing back on voicemail or listening to it in videos very much. But I haven't let that stop me from recording myself, cuz I don't think I actually have an unpleasant voice, I just don't like to hear it.
I was actually thinking about this today as I recorded a new voicemail greeting.. blech I hate doing that!

I still think I sound funny when I hear myself recorded, because it sounds so different. I don't hate it, though.

My mother shocked me by saying I sounded like her half-sister, who has a VERY distinctive voice in our family. I don't think we sound anything alike. At any rate I got used to my own voice because of a bunch of books-on-tape some friends and I recorded years ago. I don't care for it, but I'm used to it.
If it makes the rest of you feel any better, Gloria Estafan HATED her voice most of her career. I personally always thought her voice was gorgeous.

I'm not a huge fan of my voice either. When I was younger I hated it, but I got over that. Now I'm just mostly surprised and confused by it. That can't be me, can't??
09/21/2010
Not a big fan of my voice, but I'm glad it's not high pitched. However in online gaming I am always asked if I am a 12 or 13 year old boy. ><
09/21/2010
I never really cared or thought about it before.
09/21/2010
Don't really care much, not a whole lot I can do about it so why worry.

Is it egotistical that I am in love with my own voice?
I'm not saying it is the best in the world, but it is one of the things that I love most about me. I also have no idea what anyone else would think of it (so willingly naive!), and when recorded I notice how I sometimes pronounce words just plain weird (I once heard myself pronounce 'important' as 'eem-per-or-et-aaaaaun t'; don't ask).

i dont have to hear it that much so i dont care

I sort of like my voice. It's pretty deep. And I've had people on the phone call me Sir. But I've also been told it's very sexy.

Same here. I didn't used to like it but after being told that it is a sexy low like Lauren Bacall, I embraced it. I have been called sir at my house, but this is because of my dad's voice being not too deep. I've never been called sir by someone not looking for my dad lol.

I hate hearing my recorded voice. Plus, I have been told my entire life that my voice is very distinctive, unusual, and memorable -- and I wish it was not. For example, a person who had previously only spoken to me over the telephone one time will immediately recognize my voice when hearing it again and comment to that effect. No anonymity ever for me, once someone hears my voice! I had considered doing video reviews for EF minus the head shots, but if I want to remain anonymous in my public life, doing video reviews would threaten my privacy because anyone who has ever met me will recognize my voice.

I hate my voice, but I'm stuck with it. I try very hard to not let my southern accent come through in my video reviews.
09/22/2010
Well, I don't hate it, I don't love it, but I do definitely care about how it sounds. So I chose other.

Overall I like the sound of my voice and my clients feel it very reassuring and non-threatening. As for my voice mail, i am dissatisfied as I speak too fast and sound rushed. Have to do something about that but I rarely hear my own voice mail.

I don't mind my voice on video reviews and such but when I used to do silly mud fetish videos and had to act... it was ridiculous. I'm not an actor and everything sounded SO fake and abnormally high pitched.
09/22/2010
I don't like to "hear" my voice on like a recording I think I sound funny, but as for just talking, I guess I like my voice.
09/22/2010
I don't like mine either, but I've been told it's sexy, so I'll take that.
09/22/2010
Ugh, I don't like leaving voicemails because I don't like my voice at all. It's on the lower side and I have a Buffalo, NY accent, although it isn't as strong as some people's accent. However, if you aren't used the way that we say long A's it will grate on your ears.

I love my voice but I hate my accent.

I am not a huge fan of my voice when it is recorded, otherwise I'm ok with it.

I don't really care for my voice, I get all flustered and think I sound too "Chicago" like and too nasal at times.
However, people always think my girls and I sound exactly alike (most people can't tell us apart on the phone) and I LIKE their voices, so it's probably just my perception of it. Your voice sounds different in your head, because sound is being conducted through your bones as well as the nerves in your ear, so you sound different in recordings.

I had to get used to it, worked in radio for a few years.

I have taken voice lesson and lessons on diction so I have heard my voice a bunch. I quite like it actually, except when I am overly tired or sick then I sound like an 80 year old asthmatic...

Sometimes I like my voice, sometimes I don't. I like that it's not a high-pitched voice, but it's often extremely deep first thing of the morning or when I've got a cold. lol I like to think I have a good, strong voice.
09/22/2010
Nah, ToriRebel, you're just being a freak.
jk. I like the way my voice sounds, but sometimes I do hear it on a voicemail and get annoyed at how I sound. To me, I feel like I sound like a little girl sometimes! But everyone else who talks to me on the phone says I either sound like myself, or very professional. So who knows!
