New tabs usually.
Do you follow online links directly, or do you open them in new tabs/browser windows?

I'm a right clicker.

I was happy to begin a new Google Chrome session and now I have 3 windows open with 60-70 tabs in each (maybe 80 for one.)
I'm weak.
Well, that answer it: I open tabs.

I open in a new tab

Right click just easier.

Most likely because the link in the thread you made is anchored in the post and the displayed URL does not have to match what the actual URL is. I could make a link on a website that has hovertext as "Google.com" but actually links to "Yahoo.com" while the text link on the page says "Potatoes". It's a stealth redirection of the URL.

But did you ever notice that it doesn't work here on EF?
If you need an example, I posted a thread about additional warnings on Blu-rays and DVDs today. If you hover over the link here in this comment, it will likely show the correct url. However, hover over the external link to the article in the post, and it refers back to the EF thread. less

It still has nothing to do with your browser.

I follow links directly, I can stay focused that way.

I'm not talking about stealth linking. It's true, I could choose something horrible like rotten.com and give it the title, "Pink Fluffy Kittens" but that's not what is going on here.
People are placing links and giving them appropriate titles, but the links still redirect back to the thread if you right-click.

I open a new tab.
07/07/2012
I usually open the link by right clicking to open in another window or by coping/pasting in a new tab

A lack of tabs is definitely what killed Internet Explorer all those years ago.

I just click and open up the link and see where it takes me. Either and old window or new one.
