Do you eat sushi?

Contributor: dv8 dv8
The "Never have I ever..." thread has people mention that they've never eaten sushi. I'm wondering if those people are in the minority.

Some people have a phobia of raw fish but sushi can instead have egg or cooked seafood (e.g. eel/unagi). Western sushi can be vegetarian or have non-seafood meats, even Spam.

Nope. I walk by a sushi place in the morning and the smell turns my stomach. I also have texture issues with food and don't eat seafood so... no.. not my bag

I love sushi, I eat it at least once a week. Eel (unagi) is my favorite. Yum!

I LOVE sushi. I miss the Sushi place where I used to live. You really want to make sure the place your eating at has a good reputation!

If man was meant to eat fish raw, there would not be fire. haha just kidding.

I have tried it a few times and it was alright, but I just do not care for it.

I used to dislike sushi, try as I might to acquire a taste. And then one day I found myself at the most amazing all-you-can-eat sushi place in my town and it just clicked. Now I freakin' love sushi. Ohhh man. Love it so damn much. I could eat Red Dragon Rolls every day of my life.

I love sushi, was a regular at this little, family-owned restaurant in California, and I really miss it now that I'm back in Vermont.

I have lust for sushi! My favorite is Toro, it's made from the "fatty belly of tuna." OMG, that on a ball of sushi rice with some wasabi, painted with Japanese soy sauce applied with a slice of ginger......is a feeling similar to an orgasm.

Yeah, it's that good.

I'm not a fan of rolls. I'm allergic to most sea vegetables, because of the iodine. But, I love Nigiri, the balls of rice with the fish on top. Salmon is good, too, as are certain white fishes or regular tuna, called Maguro. MMMM

I've tried it a couple times, but I can't get passed the flavor of nori. I don't like the seaweed/fish flavors.

JR, I don't eat seaweed, either. Nigiri sushi usually has no seaweed. It's only a ball of rice with the fish on top. Put some wasabi and soy sauce on it, and you've got a nearly perfect food.

@ P'Gell, Not sure if you know of not, but you can ask for soy wrappers instead of Nori (seaweed) wrappers. I have the same issue with sea veggies. I always ask for soy wrappers; most places offer them. If not, I just get a bunch of nigiri (toro, maguro and sweet shrimp are my favorites) and bring on the wasabi!

We eat sushi about twice a week. We love it! I dream about it!

My aunt hates the taste of nori, so she usually asks them to instead use rice paper.

If fish smells it isn't fresh.

I can't even look at a fish without wanting to pull it out of the water and eat it raw. It always confuses me to hear people say that they won't eat sushi when I've seen them eat "normal" American dishes like meatloaf or sausage.

It has never occurred to me to do this. The place where we usually get our sushi is great, but they don't speak much English. I will have to see if they will do this for me.

If not, I love Nigiri!

High quality sushi should NEVER smell. Sushi Grade fish is very fresh, (usually frozen right after catching to keep it fresh and to help with carving the fish) and if your sushi smells, something is wrong.

Now, seaweed salad, it smells! But, I think it is supposed to. My dd eats it and I have to sit far from her.

I didn't know there was such thing. I always associated sushi with fish. There are no sushi places where I live, but maybe my next trip to the city I'll venture into a sushi place. I always tend to eat at the same places, which is wherever there's a salad bar.

This.

The "fish smell" is actually bacteria that is beginning to grow. Not fresh. At all. ew.

I live in Chicago (well the suburbs) and we have a lot of sushi places.

Vegetable sushi is very common here, and in Japan, I hear.

Here's some; cucumber, avocado, carrot and more cuke MM
