Do you donate your old clothes when you don't want them anymore, or they don't fit anymore? Or do you do something else with them?
Do you donate old clothes?

I donate all of mine. It just seems wasteful to throw them away when they could be useful to someone else.

If they are still in good condition yes. I won't donate clothes that are ripped and covered in holes.
01/22/2013
I give them to family or friends first and whatever they don't want, I sell it at a consignment shop.

I donate, give them to friends and occasionally sell them at a yard sale.

Yes, I donate all kinds of stuff if it's in good condition.
01/22/2013
I always give them to my cousins and if they can't use them they'll pass them on to their friends.
01/22/2013
I drop them off at the Goodwill truck.
01/22/2013
Usually give them to my sister if they are things she could use.

We have donated to charity as well as give them to friends or relatives.

First I'll try to re-sew it to fit me. Usually this happens with my jeans because they are way too loose. Or I'll cut the neck of a shirt to make a boat neck so that it's not so constricting on my chest. If those fail, I donate.

Which reminds me, our little donation place in my area quit on us! There isn't one in my area anymore and I was very upset about it when I seen it just disappeared back in December. I now have to travel an hour and a half to the nearest donation center. I really wish our area still had one because I know so many kids who depended on it.
But yes, I donate them. No way I could throw away any kind of clothing because it can almost ALWAYS be re-used into something, even if you simply end up turning a t-shirt into a wallet or purse. I'm big on this "up-cycling" thing. But since my 7 year old neice is somewhat close in size to me, I can usually do some minor adjustments to my clothing and give it to her. I recently turned a nice little top into the cutest dress for her.
Mine always get re-used whether it's by a relative or stranger or by me up-cycling it into something else I can use.

I'll give them to friends or if there aren't friends that want them, I donate them.

try to donate, if not, sell
01/22/2013
I wear them all out. So they go to the trash
01/22/2013
I donate or give them to my friend and her mom.

Trying to find a place to donate here is nearly impossible. I have tons of baby clothes and most of it is excellent condition. I can't find anyone that wants them so frustrating.

I offer to friends and family first and what they don't want i donate.

I grew up donating everything they'll accept & I still do! But, I just recently found out the following:

Even the clothes that have holes, underwear, etc. make money for the charities! Apparently, there is a big scrap fabric recycling industry! They use these scraps for all sorts of stuff, including insulation in homes & car doors. So, go ahead & donate 'unwearable' clothes, including underpants, as long as they're clean!
I also found out the item of clothing that is most needed & least donated is a bra! They never have enough & the demand is high. I guess women think it's gross to donate personal items such as used underpants & bras, but as long as they're washed, you can donate them!

I usually donate my old clothes to Goodwill or just throw them out if they're in really bad shape.

Have you contacted shelters for abused women, religious organizations, etc.?

When I was in college in the middle of nowhere, I couldn't find anywhere to donate & I had collected a bunch of clothes others were going to toss. Added to mine it was about 30, big garbage bags full! After being turned down by several places because I couldn't transport the clothes to them, I contacted a local abused women's shelter in the next town. Even though they didn't have a pick up service, someone came & got them when they heard how much I had & that I had no car. The director called me back later, crying because they were so happy to finally have clothes for the women who often have to leave everything behind. She said they also really need children's clothes & some toys, too!
I know a lot of church & synagogue groups also distribute clothes to families in need, but they often do it behind the scenes and unless you ask, you might not know about it. Baby clothes are really hard for families in need to acquire & the babies grow so fast, they always need new sizes. Don't be afraid to cold call & state your situation! They may not have an organized system, but might be able to get the clothes to someone who needs them.
Please, whatever you do, don't toss them! At worst, you could put an add in the paper or Craig's List offering to sell them bulk, or give them away!

Please, see my response to Dangr, above. Don't throw out the ones in bad shape, they are sold to scrap material processors and make money for the charities! As long as it's clean, they want it!
