Good point!
There are some things that I recognize as being from ESL (like using periods and commas oppositely from US English in money, or not using definite and indefinite articles (from Russian/Baltic speakers, because those languages don't have 'the' and 'a' the way we do)
And I definitely don't hold that against anyone!

It's easy to tell (usually) who doesn't speak English as a first language. It's usually certain types of syntax errors, as you said, and has a pattern, which is quite different than just being sloppy or refusing to check one's spelling.
Having learned English second usually doesn't cause repeated juvenile spelling errors (as
everyone can turn on the spell check on their computer) and certainly speaking English as a second language doesn't cause one to speak in text!
I avoid those posts and
will continue to do so (I am free to ignore any post I like, right?)
I detest text speak and don't want to respond to those who obviously speak English from birth, yet refuse to write in an understandable manner.
The way I look at it, if the writer doesn't care what he or she has to say, why should I?
