Do you avoid forum topics with typos or text-type in the titles?

I'm with ya on that, Antipova. Lots of typos, punctuation errors, substitutions for words, etc. really bother me. It's really hard to read, and it feels like I'm reading a child's work.

There will always be minor errors done unintentionally, and those are forgivable. You're not a grammar "Nazi," you just have good text etiquette.

I'm not exactly a fan of either (as well as other things), but I tend to overlook them.

I can overlook typos, so long as a post or topic isn't riddled with them. However, txt speak drives me utterly insane, and I tend to ignore posters or posts that use them.

A few typos are OK but too many times, it is a challenge to even figure what the poll is actually asking? Too much trouble, I skip it.

It's easy to tell (usually) who doesn't speak English as a first language. It's usually certain types of syntax errors, as you said, and has a pattern, which is quite different than just being sloppy or refusing to check one's spelling.

Having learned English second usually doesn't cause repeated juvenile spelling errors (as everyone can turn on the spell check on their computer) and certainly speaking English as a second language doesn't cause one to speak in text!

I avoid those posts and will continue to do so (I am free to ignore any post I like, right?)

I detest text speak and don't want to respond to those who obviously speak English from birth, yet refuse to write in an understandable manner. The way I look at it, if the writer doesn't care what he or she has to say, why should I?

Everyone makes a typo now and then, not a big deal. I even had one in a review title last week, but thankfully someone was kind enough to message me so I could fix it!

I will skip over text speak, I am way too impatient to try to decode that, and the "judge a book by its cover" part of me automatically assumes the topic's author has nothing interesting to say, anyway. If it's a title full of spelling/grammar mistakes (like if this was "Do you avoid forum topic's with typo's?) I would cringe, but may look into the thread if it sounded interesting enough.

Forty two out of 68 people so far responding don't care for text type posts. I think that majority says something.

Everyone is free to ignore any post they choose. I just worry about genuine people being ignored and discounted simply because others cannot see past pet peeves. Sure, we're a tight-knit community, but we should be welcoming of others even if we don't necessarily like how they type. Just my two cents.

I'm actually the opposite, I will click on Text-Type, but I don't click on typos.

I do notice them, sometimes I have made a mistake in what I write in text, so who am I to judge someone else for doing it. Sometimes our brains move faster then we do.

I like to assume that everyone has something worth saying, whether they've had the privilege of sitting around and learning the minute conventions of English or not. Standard English writing is something we learn because we were lucky enough to be born into a context that allows us to learn it, not because we're somehow magically more valuable as human beings.

I do, however, avoid text speak and serious slang on forums in my second languages, but that's only because I don't know the languages well enough to know wtf they're saying. I'll get there someday...

Typos are forgivable. I find my fingers to be a bit shaky at times, so I make a few myself.
