I don't have a car so I don't have to worry about that. I always lock my house where I live at. Even if I am only going to the mailbox because it is at the opposite end of where I am and out of view.
Do you always lock the doors to your house, car (etc)?

That sounds similar to my situation growing up. We only locked up at the end of the day, or if no one was home. My dad never locked his car, either. We never had any problems with house or car. The only problem we ever had was when my brand new 10 speed bike (Schwinn Varsity — remember those?) got stolen off the front porch. Ironically, it was locked, but with a really thin cable.

When we lived in a rural town, we didn't lock anything, it was nice! Since we've moved to more urban areas, we lock everything unless people are home (we have friends come and go pretty often, people usually just walk in)

I Most certainly lock up tight around here!

Well, about a year later, the cops called and said they'd recovered my bike. I couldn't believe it! I'd "registered" the bike with the city, but when we filed a stolen report, they said they almost never got them back.

When we got to the station, they gave me the FRAME, which was majorly bent. Everything else had been stripped off. They'd recovered a BUNCH of bike frames in a big pile down in a ravine. They said it was organized bike thieves, probably traveling around in a van (they hadn't caught them). I've learned this is really common. They usually target college campuses and other places with lots of bikes, but I guess they saw mine on the way to somewhere else. They almost always grab name brand bikes with cheap (or zero) locks.
At the time, I would have loved to have a few minutes alone with one of them. Now I just use the serious locks whenever I have to leave a bike somewhere, even for a few minutes.

They had to search for days before they could even FIND the key to the garage, which they claimed never to have locked in 30+ years of living here. They didn't lock the doors, or the windows, of the house; they didn't lock their cars, or the shed with the lawn mower and snowblower... And they never had a single problem.
That made me feel really good about our neighborhood — but I still lock up! I just can't seem to "let go" enough to leave anything valuable unlocked.
How about YOU? Do you always lock up? less

My dorm room door locks automatically, and I always lock cars when I get in or out.
03/15/2013
We keep everything locked up around here even during the day the house stays locked
03/15/2013
Almost always
03/15/2013
If I walk away from the car, it's locked. The house, of course it's locked.
03/15/2013
ALWAYS!! It it a habit for me
03/15/2013
Always.
03/15/2013
Yes always just as I always buckle my seat belt no matter how far I'm going in the car.
03/15/2013
I always keep everything locked, even when I am at home. I lived in Las Vegas for years, and that got to be a good habit.
03/15/2013
Yes, always. It just makes me feel safer and more secure.
03/15/2013
Everything stays locked! I live in a safe area but in this day and age you just shouldn't risk it

The one day I would decide to leave my doors unlocked would be the one day that I lost all my stuff, lol. Our house got broken into so I definitely lock up.
03/15/2013
I always lock the front door to my house before the evenings.
03/15/2013
I always lock the door whenever I come in. It drives my family batty in the summer.
03/15/2013
If there's nobody downstairs, or if I'm downstairs in the middle of the night, I'll lock the door.
03/17/2013
We lock our apartment if no one is there, but when someones home during the day we usually don't lock it, and we only lock it at night sometimes (and sometimes i request to leave it open when I know someone has to come over super late or early). My car is never locked unless it has my computer in it, which is more expensive than the car.

Always! especially with hubby in korea right now! Doors locked, alarm on, lights on, windows locked... I have anxiety at night

Everything is locked, even the windows during the summer. (bad town)
03/18/2013
Yes, always!

I always have the front door locked. I would like it if we could lock the back door to, but my husband is forever leaving it unlocked.
03/18/2013
We always lock the house up, my car (which is in the garage) I don't. I'm really careful about knowing where my keys are. I hate locking myself out of somewhere.

I'm somewhat obsessive in making sure everything is locked actually, I've seen way too many home invasion and carjacking stories on the news to not worry.
I sometimes wish we lived in a time and place where you could keep stuff unlocked and just trust people to not take advantage of it being unlocked, but that isn't the case unfortunately.
