Usually not during city driving. After some interesting research into injuries created below or above 35 mph, I found that more injuries occur from using the seatbelt at lower speeds, than not using them at all. At higher speeds I use them, getting ejected from the vehicle just doesn't sound too exciting to me. With lower speeds, when the seatbelt locks, catches as you are thrown forward, your body rotates around the shoulder harness creating a twisting, torquing of your upper back/neck areas as your pelvis is held down. This usually creates some really nasty injuries at even slower speeds of 10-15 mph. Even though this research is out there, and readily available to anyone, it probably won't work as a defense for not wearing your seatlbelt, sorry, I know that sucks, but it is what it is.

This really isn't true. I've worked in a Big City ER and seen deadly accidents that occurred well under 35 MPH, and 99% of the severe injuries and deaths NO seatbelt was being used.
Rarely do neck or back injuries occur from using seat belts, if the force was enough to harm someone IN a seat belt, it would have been enough to put that person through the windshield, or at least into it
without one.
I saw a young girl who was ejected from a vehicle going about 5 miles an hour in a parking lot, hit the pavement, she went into a coma and when she woke up, her sense of taste and smell were gone. No way you can tell me that if she had her seat belt on in that car anything would have happened. There were 4 other people in the car, they all had belts on, the same accident occurred and all 4 except her walked away with no injuries. She spent two weeks in the hospital and now can't taste her food nor smell anything. I got a million more, some worse....
I don't know a single nurse, tech or doctor who has ever worked ER or ICU who doesn't wear a seat belt even when driving down their own driveways. We've seen the damage no one else sees.... except for the undertakers, they deal with the people we couldn't save.... and all of them wear seat belts, too.
