Do we have any atheists or agnostics here?

I live in a highly Mormon area, not knocking it, to each their own. But Mormon's do like to share a lot about their religion and this gal asked me if I would like to come to church with ... more
I know what you mean! I'm always hesitant to tell new people what I believe because it's been my experience that most religious folk don't think you can be a "good" person without sharing their ideology.

Because... science. That's why.

I do believe there is a higher power, just not sure what it is. Anything is possible.

Im an atheist. Ex-Catholic (ages 1-10) and Ex-Mormon (ages 11-14)

I started following my own moral codes independant of religion over 6 years ago and haven't looked back since. I can be a good person without believing in a god.

I've always been atheist even though my mom's family is heavily Christian (Seventh Day Adventist) and I used to attend Saturday school very regularly as a child. It just never really made sense to me.

I wouldn't say atheist all the way. I wouldn't go as far as to disprove everywhere. For the most part, I liked the idea of religion but I hate what people do to it. I hate that people take what is written in those books o' fairy tales and morph it to fit modern logic. I have friends that are religious and I totally respect that. We all don't share common interests and I will never try to change their mind.

Funny because next semester I'm taking a The Bible as a Text class and I will have to read the bible and write on it for that class! I want to READ what everyone is talking about. I feel like I can't judge entirely until I've picked up the book and read it myself. Only then I can judge.

At this point in my life, I am an atheist. I think religion is a means of explaining things that people don't (or don't want to) understand.

I just choose to not have anything to do with religion in my life.

I went to church when I was a kid and all of the stories never made sense to me. I took everything literally, so when they told me Adam was made out of sand (please don't correct me and say it's dust... I was told sand. Does it really make a difference?), I demanded to know how that -worked-. I explained that if I went out to the park and made an arm sculpted out of sand, an actual dismembered arm would not just randomly appear, so Adam could not have just appeared like that. The Sunday School teachers never liked me much after that.

I have morals and standards of my own. I don't need some book telling me what to do.
