When things get financially tight for you, and I mean, really bad, do you get desperate and try to sell things or go sell blood or plasma? Or do you just take a breath and do what you can with what little you have?
Do desperate times equal desperate measures for you?

I don't have much as it is, so I'm not racing off to sell it for what little cash it would bring and then just end up replacing it anyway. We do with what we have, when we have it. Oh and I don't weigh enough to donate body fluids, so that's never been an option for me.

I donated plasma for a while. It didn't pay too bad, $240 a month or so, and I had a part/part/part time job that paid about $400/mo.
You gotta do what you gotta do...

That's about how much I'm getting a month with my part/part/part time job right now. Holidays will pick up massively.

I really wish I had the guts to go donate plasma because I know it pays decently. I'm terrified of needles and blood but I like getting tattoos.

For me, giving blood doesn't hurt that much. It may seem scary because it is a kinda big needle but I think the smaller needles hurt more. I am scared of needles as well and when I first saw the nurse coming at me with it I literally paled. She almost didn't take my blood because she thought I was too nervous but after everything was said and done it wasn't that bad. Best thing to do is relax and go with a friend and remember, they will never make you do anything you don't want to do.

haha, I have had my blood drawn once in my entire memory. The nurse did a terrible job first of all, which didn't help my nerves at all, nor has it helped me out psychologically after that. She tied the tourniquet TOO tight. I realize that they have to be tight to make the veins pop out, but this was bad, felt like it was wrapped around my bone. And then my vein kept moving or she just couldn't find it or something. I ended up passing out and falling out of the chair. And I was so terrified after that that my parents had to pin me down on a table so the nurse could go in through my other arm.

Yes just a few years ago, I'd had to sell plasma to be able to buy groceries. I'm not happy about it but, I've done it.
10/21/2011
I'd sell plasma if things got really tight. Also I just scour craigslist, find decent free things, and resell them cheaply. Helps to cover the little things.

I find a way to work it out if I want something bad enough. I buy and sell on ebay often. You know I've donated blood before but I don't think there even is a place around here to sell ones blood - too far in the sticks I guess.

Somehow I find a way out of the bind.....luckily have stocks, etc. I can sell if I need to.

Plasma, I believe, is the only fluid (besides sperm) that you can earn money for donating.

I usually worry myself to death and do what I can to save money.

I just rolled with it. I could see the writting on the wall with the way things were going. I saw it coming 3 years before it hit. So I had time to save up. Dont get me wrong, I was worried. I have to make sure that my kids have everything they need. So far we have came through pretty good. Not great, missing savings and investments, but we are still eating, clothed, and housed.

I once stuffed extra hot dog buns from our work barbecue into my purse so I'd have food for the next day. I'd missed a lot of work due to health reasons, and had about $8/week for food and gas for over a month. SO NOT FUN! It's interesting the kind of things you start considering in that kind of circumstance, though.

I usually just work extra hours at work when things are tight, or maybe see some clients at home. Doing massage, it's easy to work a few extra hours and it really brings in a lot of money. I always feel exhausted though when I work extra hours. I've also done a few part time jobs at various times in my life when things are tight. I know it would be a different story if I had kids to take care of and needed to be home, but at this point in my life working a few extra hours seems to be the solution that makes the most sense.
I did sell my hair once, because I had cut it from almost waist length to a pixie cut. I didn't do it because I needed money, but it was nice to get a couple extra hundred dollars for it especially since I would have just thrown it out. Looking back I wish I would have donated it to a charity, but I didn't know you could do that at the time.

O.o you got a couple hundred dollars for selling your hair?! I've never heard of selling one's hair before.

Luckily this hasn't happened to me in a while, but when it did, I would sell household items.
10/23/2011
I look for work and I look for things to flip, I can turn a little money into a lot of money by buying things cheap that I can sell much more expensive. Or find people who want hard to find things, find those things, and sell to them.

Hmm, that's a good idea. Find super cheap things and improve on them, then sell them for more than what you bought them for.

I have thought of selling blood with my cousin before.

always find a way

I went through a period of no job. I buy and resell things from time to time. Do projects for people. Now, I'm in the process of starting my own business.

I make and sell items on ebay so if things get hard I will make more of an effort to make more items.
Otherwise, I just take it in my stride. Money is probably the only thing I don't really stress over. It's weird cause I panic over everything, but for some strange reason I have a "she'll be right - money will come from somewhere".

We already live paycheck-to-paycheck and budget our money to the last little penny. If something goes wrong with that, we just take our lumps.
10/26/2011
just do what i have to do to save money

We make due with what we can.

I would sell more stuff, but the problem is, when you've always been poor you never amass much in the way of resellable stuff.
