I took home economics and didn't really learn anything.
Did you take Home Economics in school?

I never took it.

My school had it, and it wasn't required, but they tried to put me in it every year. I always changed classes. My friends took it and only had bad things to say about it, plus I thought it was a waste of time.

I did in middle school.

It was mandatory in our high school.

I didn't take it.

They never offered one at my school, but I learned to cook, sew, clean, balance a checkbook and plan out menus and budgets at home from my parents, so I don't think I missed too much.

I took home ec because it was easy.
07/05/2012
Nope, and glad I didn't.

I took Home Ec when I was in middle school. I'm probably one of the few but I think I learned a lot from that class

This was not available in my school, and I think it's not available in my province since years...

I took it for the easy credit but actually learned a few things I still use today. My favorite is getting to throw pasta against the wall to see if it's done. If it sticks it's cooked.

I like making things so it has helped me.

Home Ec and Wood Shop were required for every student in my jr. high. We did do a lot in class but by that time I knew a lot of what we were taught. I have started sewing recently but I have been learning through books and tutorial videos instead of relying on my old home ec education.

Yep.
Home Ec. was great!
We learned how to handle cutlery and keep sanitary kitchens.
Every Friday we would prepare a lunch or breakfast for our grade level.
I learned that if you cook a great meal, you can easily get the male students to do just about anything you want for the rest of the day.

My school didn't offer it. I would of loved to take it though!

I took a few classes similar to 'home ec', but they were split up and different than the usual home ec. I took Family Studies (family types, relationships, planning, childcare, etc.), Food (cooking & dietary studies), and clothing (sewing, etc.)

My school did not offer home Ec, but if it had, I probably would have taken it.

took it, but was bad at it.

yes first year hs

It was a required class in my middle school. Don't remember much of it though. I took a strictly cooking class in high school, but didn't really learn anything from it. I taught myself how to cook later on.
08/01/2012
Nope, no Home Ec. for me.
08/01/2012
Yep, it was pretty useful

I took it in middle school for 9 weeks, but I already knew everything they taught. By that age I was doing basic baking on my own, and I knew the basics of sewing. The class was so simple, most of the time spent was on things like how to read a recipe, how to turn on a stove, and how to thread a needle.

My home ec class was awful - it turned into a daily sob session for our recently divorced teacher. It was really sad and sort of uncomfortable...
