even though it is technically possible for it to happen on that date the likelihood is so small that i dont care. if it happens it happens, if not oh well the planet will continue to spin until the sun turns into a red giant and incinerates earth

I don't worry about it. I have a rule in life that I don't worry about things I cannot change. The world ending is one of those things. I rather enjoy the present than worry about doomsday. But I've always had a plan in case something huge happens, not just for the whole 12/21/12, just in general.

People have been predicting the end of the world since, well, the beginning of the world. I don't put much stock into this date or any other.

I don't believe man can predict when the world is going to end. But my 43rd birthday is Dec 25th, 2012, so I am not sure if I want it to end on the 21st or not. I respect the scientific community, but I still don't believe man can predict the final days. If you are religious, which I am, the Bible says only God knows when Armegeddon is coming. Who knows??

To the best of my knowledge, here are the ways scientists are 'predicting' ends of the world:

Big arsed meteor.

How it is a prediction: Scientists can find and track meteors, asteroids and other deep space objects, predict their trajectories. Example: I predict that, if I build a catapult, fit a large stone, and aim it at a passing car, estimating the trajectory and adjusting for windspeed, car speed and direction, it will hit the window, and smash it. If my maths is correct (since my maths is terrible, let's assume someone who does know how to do this, and assume their maths is correct), then I will have successfully predicted a broken window.

Volcano, earthquake or other natural phenomena.

How it's a prediction: it's not. They know these things happen. They've happened in the past and, since fault lines and volcanoes are still active, it's a reasonable assumption that it will happen again. Now, currently there's no way to predict with great accuracy when they will, but they're working on it. Example: mum eats tin of baked beans. We know she'll blow, and we can listen out for rumblings, but we've no idea when it'll happen. Best to just stay far away, covering our noses.

While scientists are predicting such phenomena, they're not, per se, predicting the end of the world. They leave that shit to religious nuts.

There is no evidence that the world will end in December. People are taking anything they want to make evidence in their favor but it's not real.

omg some of the options are hilarious, but i dont believe it will be the end of civilization, i do believe the earth might shift and strange occurances will happen but no such thing like 2012, no one can really know the exact date and time that civilization will end.

Did you know when extensive disasters hit they affect the weather patterns all around the world because our air currents are all connected. Notice how these disasters seem to be together - the earthquake in Japan right after a nuclear explosion close followed by that tsunami.

The disasters aren't any more frequent - no more frequent than the summer Hurricane Catrina hit among others and that island was nearly wiped out by a tsunami.

Global warming is real, but not what people think it is. -shrug- notice the off-thrown weather patterns - that's global warming - people are just uneducated idiots who believe whatever they see and hear on television.

There has been an end of the world prediction probably every year. Not to mention the whole Mayan Calender shit has been dis-proven. Besides I highly doubt man have the ability to destroy the world - make it uninhabitable for a period of time sure, if they set off enough nuclear weapons - but destroy it? When we can't even level a mountain in one hit? Not likely. If the sun were going to explode we'd already be seeing things from that - natural disasters are caused by weather patterns not magical-world-explodin g-monsters.

ugh the longer I think about this the more stupid it sounds and the more I want to hit people over the head who think they are going to go to sleep on the 20th and not wake up on the 21st or wake up to fire raining from the sky and zombies mobbing the streets.

Things will change dramically for us but I don't think it is going to be the end of the earth. We really don't know what is going to happen and we all are just going to have to pray that the changes we will be going through will make us a better world.
