I think the media should not give it so much hype because people can act crazy and scary when they think they are about to die. This old man I once knew sold all his stuff and killed himself the night before 2000.

Oh hey, something that is happening June 3rd, 2012 that won't happen again for another 127 years: Venus will be transiting the sun. ie. Venus will be lined up between Earth and the Sun, so as it passes by, you can view it like a solar eclipse. Make a simple sun viewing box and you can watch it happen.
And I don't think there is an increase in natural disasters. We, and I mean the entire existence of humans, are a blip on the the timeline of Earth and the solar system, and we have only been more accurately recording and making news of natural disasters across the world in the last 150 years. Krakatoa was one of the first major disasters that was news for the world and discussed openly by scientists across multiple continents. And that was because it was such a huge event, scientists all over the world could measure and observe the effect. 12% of the planet HEARD one of this volcanoe's hand-full of major explosions. A painter in Argentina spent 2 years painting the sunset because of the amazing effects the dust particles had in the atmosphere. Krakatoa is located near Java and Sumatra. And that happened in 1888.
There is simply not enough data to really postulate whether or not the Earth is changing in a way that humans will be wiped out in some major event. We have a historical perspective that is far too narrow make any assumptions that there is more or less activity as of late than there has been over many, many, many millions of years. less

I think it will happen when it happens, I don't want to knwo when it's coming, and I think NOONE can predict what day it will be. So, yes I believe all the crap happening in the world is related to major things happening, and no I don't believe it will all fall apart on the 21st of Dec. But we ARE preparing for when it DOES happen. I'm more afraid of our government than I am of the weather and such.

evidently the mayans didn't take into account leap years so their calendar has already ended.
06/22/2012
It's probable that the person(s) who converted the Mayan calender into our calender did account for leap years, though.

Why are half the choices basically the same? That said, I don't believe in it. I think the actual date has already passed due to leap years and such.

There really haven't been that many more disasters recently than in the past. They just get publicized more. The glut of recent, highly publicized disasters creates an availability bias, which in turn leads people to believe that there has been a drastic increase in incidents.
People have been predicting the end of the world for millennia. Needless to say, I don't put much stock in Doomsday prophesies.

People have predicted many doomsday dates. So far, none of them have happened... and if they do happen, they I guess they do. There's nothing we can do to stop it.

I do believe that a doomsday will occur, but I don't think there will be a damn thing anyone can do about it. I refuse to spend my life worrying about something that could happen. Because I could have an airplane crash into my house. Doesn't stop me from living near the airport. I think it's nonsense that religion uses to try to get more donations out of people who think there is something you can do about it if you warn enough people. Seriously, if a huge meteorite crashes into Earth, the likelihood that anyone would survive is small and the likelihood that anyone would survive the aftermath is small too. We need to worry about things we can actually prevent, not the enviable. And death is the enviable.

As for "the end of the world as we know it"; Everyday the world is changing very rapidly and not in a good way as I can figure.
However there DOES seem to be an "awakening" of a sort going on among some.
In my opinion, the media, movies and hype are a way of "conditioning" the populace to gradually accept the disasters to come our way.
The "real" Mayan council has announced that the doomsday date 12/21/12 is NOT true and is only western hype.
As far as planets hitting us and solar storms, yes these are plausible disasters which will be tribulations to all, but not the "end of the world". Just the end of the world as we know it now.
We all have to die one day. I try to concentrate on being the best I can be as a human being until then...whenever that may be. less

I keep telling people NO ONE MAN KNOWS WHEN THE WORLD WILL END! It's even stated that not even the angles in heaven know when the world will end.. It's really annoying.. The world could end in the next 10 seconds for all we know.

the end of the whole will happen when it happenes

I do beleive that there will be an end, after all, we beleive that there was a beginning.
As for 2012, December 21 being the end of the world, I don't think it will be this date that the end of the world happens, but it might be the end of one way of thinking into a new way of thinking. I think on or around this date a change of some sort will happen.
As for all the natural disasters that are going on, I think there might be a few reasons for them. You know how you suddenly come down with something big, but your body had been giving you lots of little signs for a while that you need to change something but you didn't listen? I think that might be what is going on.
And in the mean time? It's summer, I am going to go outside and enjoy the sun light and get a tan!

People are always going to try to predict when the end of the world is. I don't buy into the hype.
07/12/2012
The Mayans didn't predict the end of the world. They just created a long-count calendar which happens to end on December 23 of this year.

Did you know that the genius Albert Einstein has warned humanity of a great pole shift that will alter the planet Earth? NASA also confirms that solar storms are headed our way. Scientists agree that the Earth will complete its 26,000 year wobble very soon. Furthermore, our astronomers have discovered that our sun will go through a galactic alignment which puts us on the same plane as the Milky Way in 2012.
Have you noticed that there have been greater occurrences of disasters lately? Tsunamis, floods, earthquakes, droughts – we’ve blamed it all on the “Inconvenient Truth” a.k.a. global warming. So do you believe that by December 21, 2012, the end of earth and civilization as we know it will END? less

On December 22nd, 2012......The SUN will rise. Birds will chirp in the trees, dogs will scratch at doors to go out to pee, newspapers will slap down on driveways all over America, McDonald's will serve up untold numbers of Egg McMuffins, Starbucks will brew coffee, and GASP...since it is a SATURDAY...many people may actually (ready for this?) SLEEP IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Whi le others get up early and buy TOYOTA'S!!!!!)
Okay, I know this is HARD STUFF to believe. Some may find it frightening (especially the Egg McMuffin part), but BELIEVE...PLEASE BELIEVE...because it IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!
REMEMBER, you heard the TRUTH HERE first.
