But, seriously, for threads that are already really insanely long, unless I'm particularly moved (which has certainly happened), I'm not going to read it all. I'd miss the bulk of the conversation or just run out of time to reply. Especially when it comes to meetings, parties, etc.
Or if they're just people responding to a poll or question of "does this apply to you?" or "what is your opinion?" then it one can either choose just to share their piece and move on without checking out any of the other responses or to engage in discussion. Both of those choices are just fine and legitimate. There's no requirement to post.
And I definitely agree with SS's take on it. Especially the "comment as I read through and post a change or addition in my first opinion accordingly." I don't recall every having a 'problem' with posting my answer first, checking out what others said, and then adding a new post with "So-and-so really got me thinking and now I want to say this because I'm inspired to do so!" As long as I'm respectful, polite, and light-hearted at the beginning with whatever I post, reading the thread or not, how can it possibly bother anyone?

I agree with Darling Jenn here...
Sometimes, I could be researching for a class, so I will take the time to read the whole thread. And chances are... a few people have covered my opinion so there is no point in making a comment.
And sometimes, if it is just an opinion post, I'll just skim.
Threads that make me chuckle are the ones where someone creates a poll for helping them choose a toy. They include "other please explain". Then they are not happy with the explanation that people voice.
