Are pot pies still "in"?

Contributor: SaMiKaY SaMiKaY
I am 20 years old, and grew up being raised by my grandparents. My grandma ALWAYS made pot pies with leftovers (and they were DELICIOUS!). I recently asked a few of my friends what their favorite pot pies were and they looked at me like I was crazy! These friends were slightly younger, grew up in young families, and had NEVER heard of pot pies. So now I am curious! Are pot pies no longer a go-to dinner for families? Or is this an isolated incident with friends that need to get out more?

Were they ever "in"? I remember them from when I worked at Boston Chicken in high school but that's it! Never had them.

I think it depends on where you live, or where your parents are from.

My mom has made them a few times. I don't really like or dislike them, they're just ok.

I didn't grow up eating them, but I LOVE them! (If they're good.) I have a really good recipe that I love, and there's also a little shop here that makes them - individual size and full size. But I'm a huge fan of 1 pan meals. They're so easy to clean up after!

I've had frozen ones, but don't eat them now. When I have leftovers I'm more likely to make a stir-fry or hash.

We used to have them all the time when I was little until my brother decided he didn't like them. I make them occasionally for dinner now. I love pot pies!

I know it's supposed to be comfort food, but the only way I can eat them is if I pour tons of hot sauce on them to make them taste like something!

Moreso when I was younger, but veggie pot pies are still actually pretty yummy. And a good way to get rid of stray veggies.

The frozen ones were very good that we had around the house. Haven't ate one in a long time though. I may ask for them on this week's shopping list! ;D

if they are "out" i think it's because most pot pies these days are from the frozen food aisle. imagine if all we knew of pizza, burgers, or really any food was frozen food version?

I still have them once or twice a month, it's hard to beat a 60 cent dinner!

My mom would always stock up on them because they were cheap, filling food. It just sucked waiting the 45 mins (felt like 3 hours) for them to be done.

I don't get the frozen ones anymore. I make my own after a good chicken dinner.

I love pot pies, but I'm pretty picky about them. I prefer homemade, Marie Callendar's or Stouffer's. I refuse to eat Banquet pot pies and they have to be chicken. I also pick out all of the chicken pieces and just eat the veggies, sauce and crust. Why, yes I am a child when it comes to food.

I am not a fan of the store bought ones. But, I make home made pot pies all the time. In fact, I made Shepard's Pie (a form of pot pie, with mashed potatoes instead of crust) just two nights ago.

I LOVE pot pies. So does My Man. Nom Nom Nom Nom!!!!

You can make vegetarian pot pies!

If you don't want to make your own, Amy's (a family-owned, organic, vegetarian company) sells frozen vegetarian pot pies. They also sell shepherd's pies, which is a vegetarian version of another comfort food that is somewhat reminiscent of a pot pie (it has mashed potatoes as a topping instead of having a crust).

We still have them regularly. Always homemade, and yes, vegetarian too. We also make Shepherd's Pie but use lentils and mushrooms instead of meat. Very tasty. And especially good in cold winter weather. Comfort food at its finest!

I prefer shepherd's pie - the only real difference being mashed potatoes instead of pastry for the topper.
