I love all chocolate. A real chocoholic. However, I would rather have ONE piece of good chocolate then a BOX full of the "lower end" store bought stuff. Just not the same to me. However, I KNOW lots of folks enjoy their Hershey's or Whitman Samplers....and I am just a CHOCOLATE SNOB. So, how do YOU feel about chocolate's?
Regular Store Bought Chocolate (Palmers, Whitmans Sampler, Hersey's), verses "High End" Chocolate (Neuhouse, See's, Godiva...etc). Does it matter to you which you get or buy?

I like all chocolate but you'd have to wait until a cold day in Hell or when I win the lottery to ever see me waste my money on high-end chocolate. I'm very frugal and I'll rarely buy even "low-end" chocolate because it's a total waste of money when I could save that for more important things.
When I do buy chocolate, it's the big bars of Hershey's Dark and/or Milk Chocolate and Almonds. And maybe Cookies and Cream if my boyfriend begs for it. The bigger bars are a way better deal and they last longer. But low-end chocolate is delicious regardless. I've had some more expensive chocolate and not seen much difference in taste.

I don't hate low-end chocolates, I just don't buy any. They tend to have less cocoa than the more expensive brands, and they're usually very sweet. I love dark chocolates by Godiva, good thing they now have "Gems" to compete with the other not-so-high-end brands!

I'm partial to the 70%+ cocao chocolate bars, like Lindt/Ghirardelli's ... so I guess I'm actually mid-grade in the brand range.
12/19/2011
I like the high-end chocolates like Godiva and Ghirardelli's. As you visit different parts of the world, you will begin to appreciate the many unique and complex flavors. For example, I like Rogers' Chocolates from Victoria BC, Canada to others from Seattle (Boehm's Chocolate or Dilettante Chocolates) and Chicago to New York, too numerous to mention. Hershey's Dark and/or Milk Chocolate and Whitman Chocolates are very good and I enjoy them as well, but use them as a baseline when comparing the more elegant ones.

it oesn't have to be "high-end," but whitman, palmers and the others are just cheap. it's like comparing a hardee's dollar burger to a kobe beef burger, two different worlds. russel stover, lindt and lake champlain are good medium priced chocolates.
12/19/2011
I really don't have much of a sweet tooth. and I dont like chocolate filled with stuff. Really the only ones I like are Lindt truffles. And those can be found anywhere. So I guess, when I am in the mood for it (once a month) I am happy with the low end stuff.

Any will do

Good chocolate only. I am of the camp that likes intense desserts in small portions, and if I am going to have chocolate, I would like to enjoy it. As a gift I would much much prefer three well-crafted chocolates to a two-pound box of Hershey's. It's just a matter of taste.
12/19/2011
Any and all chocolate are pretty much fine with me.

I love chocolate. I will tolerate low-end stuff like Hershey's if I'm in a pinch. For my regular chocolate consumption, I like Lindt and Ghiradelli dark chocolates. However, I do love me some Godiva and will spend the money on it a few times a year as I see it as a special treat.
12/19/2011
As long as it's not stale I don't care what kind of chocolate.
12/19/2011
I only hate dark chocolate.
12/19/2011
ugh not a chocolate fan at all. I would much rather go without.
12/20/2011
I'm super picky and in the middle of choices. I tend to be happy with any chocolate, especially when I'm PMSing. I prefer Hershey's, some Godiva, and best of all Fannie May!
12/20/2011
It depends on the type of chocolates.
12/20/2011
I love the really good chocolate, but some of that is available in stores so I guess that means it's store-bought.

While Godiva hand-dipped truffles are my ultimate chocolate indulgence, I greatly enjoy some of the chocolates available at Wal-Mart. Dove chocolates are very good, as are many of the Lindt chocolates. [These|link bars that you can pick up at Wal-Mart are fantastic. As far as boxed products go, we love these. Of course, I realize none of those are exactly cheap chocolates. You just don't have to go to a boutique or specialty store to get them as you do to get the specific type of Godiva truffles that I like (the ones I like the most are not the ones seen pre-packaged in department stores). Needless to say, my indulgence in my chocolate preference comes few and far between!
I hate Cadbury. It doesn't taste like real chocolate to me.

I'm not a huge fan of chocolate to begin with but when I want it I either go to Teuscher in the city or the Godiva store if I don't feel like traveling for it.

I am such a ridiculous chocolate snob that the high end ones you listed I consider mid-range at best . Chocosphere is the place I go for my crazy ridiculous chocolates. I like Theo quite a bit, and Bochner, and a whole lot of obscure chocolate. I find a lot of new offerings at my local food co-op. On sale.
Godiva is overpriced and not great chocolate to me. I do like their hazelnut ones though.
That said, I WILL do stuff like Milka or Lindt now and again. I absolutely will not do Palmer's because it basically says "chocolatey" flavour or some BS like that... and it tastes funky as hell.
I DO LOVE Fannie May as was mentioned upthread!! Trinidads! I remember eating those as a kid. The shops had an ice cream version on a stick that was PHENOMENAL! I was IN LOVE with Fannie May and to discover they do not have the shops in Iowa (at least near me AT ALL) is a real bummer. I drove to Chicago for an SO's family Christmas one year and late at night in a party store (err...convenience store for those of you NOT from Detroit, lol) I discovered the BIG Trinidad candies! Not the little truffles but the huge old patties. I bought three huge boxes and was stocked for, oh, a month...haha. Wish the site sold those instead of just the truffles.
My mum introduced me to good chocolate as a kid and just kept moving on up. We used to be fans of Dagoba for awhile until they changed ownership or somesuch nonsense and they don't taste quite the same. Chocolove is decent.
Yep, verified snob but I will eat mid-range stuff and depending on the situation (alcohol being involved, etc) I will even eat lowbrow crap. Equal opportunity I guess, at times.

honestly, chocolate is chocolate to me. but i prefer brand names that i recognize over, say, dollar store no name chocolate.
12/20/2011
I don't do chocolate, usually. Hubby loves it all though, so he makes up for it.

I'm not crazy about chocolate in general, but a nice box of the type of chocolates or candles I do like is always a wonderful treat.
I like dry chocolate covered cherries (not the kind with sugary glaze/liquid inside) and chocolate covered caramels. My favorite in the chocolate covered caramels section are salted.
I actually JUST got a little box of an assortment of salted chocolate covered caramels from a local-type candy & ice cream shop. It has 6 milk chocolate covered caramels and 6 dark chocolate covered caramels, and 6 different kinds of sea salt from all over the world. 1 of each type of chocolate topped with each type of salt. Lovely.
Then there's another local candy/chocolate shop in another city in the state that I love. They make these things that are basically salted pistachios covered in caramel and then coated in chocolate. Sooo good. I go and get one every time I'm in the city and pass by the shop.

I like chocolate, and I usually stick with Hershey's for everyday treats. I go for the higher priced stuff on special occasions.
12/20/2011
I can't eat chocolate, it does horrible things to my stomach.
12/30/2011
I voted other. My fiancee and I are vegan, so we can't eat all types of chocolate.
12/30/2011
All chocolate is good chocolate but my favorites are Hershey's or Lindt.
Godiva makes a good peppermint bark though.

I prefer my local chocolatier but am good with mostly anything. Offhand, I can only think of Aldi's chocolate when it comes to those I will pass over.
12/31/2011
I will take any chocolate. But I'm not a fan of the dark chocolate. Just a little too sweet for me.

I love Lindor chocolates, and other high ends ones, but there's something very comforting about the candy you've been eating since childhood. They both have their place.
