I love to read and I love to write. I have been working on a lot of book reviews lately and I am just curious what types of erotic novels this community prefers.
Do you read erotic novels and if you do, do you prefer a lot of action and little story; or a lot of story with a little action?

I prefer collections of erotic short stories, and I am totally frustrated by stories with too little action and too much plot. The few times I have paged through erotic novels I found myself skipping ahead to the juicy bits.

I prefer much more story to the action plots. Erotica is different, but for my erotic novels, I read them just like I would expect from a regular story, except it's adult.

I have a taste for good erotica myself too, but oddly I think it can be overdone. One book I read recently had them banging on every other page. It was they did this, then "sex", this then "sex." I ended up skipping through some of the sex parts to get back to the story at hand.

I don't know, I guess I just don't look for a good read in my jack material. I have books that I read for their literary value, and when I want to get off I don't need much more than well-written fucking.

I voted doesn't matter because so far I haven't read anything where I found myself wishing for more of the other.

I haven't read a lot of it, but when I do I prefer more action than plot.

I love great erotic novels. It's always good to have both plot and action. But if the book doesn't have enough action I find myself getting bored and skipping around to find some sexy parts. But there are some really good ones out there.
Larissa Ione's - Demonica Series
Lara Adrian - Midnight Breed Series
Lora Leigh - All of her books
Joey Hill - Vampire Queen Series - BDSM
Just to name a few.

Unfortunately, too many writers follow a predicted fucking script to somehow work in a mediocre story.

It's not that I don't enjoy a regular, well-written plot that just happens to have sex, but when I read an erotic novel, I'm reading it to get off. I just want to see fantastic bunny-bopping, no plot required. It's kind of like the difference between watching a show that just happens to have full on nudity and explicit sex scenes and watching hardcore porn.
03/02/2010
I want both. I'll settle for well written either or.
03/04/2010
It depends for me. Like I don't want a lot of sex for sex sake, and in out of place portions of the book.
My favorite author Lorelei James does a great job a balancing sex and plot.

huh, I wanted to vote but there's no "inbetween" option.
That said, I like Kresley Cole's paranormal romance series

Depends on what I am looking for or my mood, but usually I like a good mix of both. I want a good story that gets me interested and makes me feel like I know the characters or at least know them enough to relate to them in some way. Still, when I read straight up erotica, I am looking to get aroused. This doesn't mean I need constant sex... I like a little foreplay
Romance on the other hand, which I consider completely different than erotica, I like a good story with at least three or four good sex scenes throughout, and some hot and heavy build ups in between. If the story is extremely good, I don't need a lot, but do find my self a little frustrated. I have been reading the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabledon (sp) for years and I love the characters and story line. There was a little more sex in the first few books, but it has trickled down to brief mentions and it frustrates me to no end. I have fallen totally in love with the male lead, Jamie Fraser and want to read more sex scenes with him in it, and not just the "fade to black" sort of stuff they do now in the later books!

I've thought about it...but I've never actually read an erotic novel really.
08/02/2010
I answered that I do not read them, but that's only because I've never had any around. I definitely plan on picking some up and I believe the mix of things wouldn't matter as long as the story is put together well.

I like a story base with jsut the right amount of eroticness in it
08/07/2010
It's not that i DON'T, it's that i've never! Maybe i should start.

If I like the story, then it doesn't really matter. I've read very erotic stories with little actual graphic details that were extremely hot, but I can just as easily enjoy some trashy smut when the notion takes me.
08/26/2010
I don't read erotic novels, but I DO read smutty fanfiction from time to time. Usually one-shots. I like a mix of things, and it depends on my mood, too.
08/26/2010
I prefer a mix of plot and action.
08/27/2010
I usually prefer a lot of story with a little action... At the end of the day, I'm in it for the story, and if it's just one sex scene after another, really it's just the script to a porn film. I want a novel that also happens to have a sexy subplot.
08/27/2010
If I want a lot of plot and not much sex, I'll read a romance novel.

I saw a softporn show just like that on late night showtime, i have never watched a movie and thought is "it over yet", and with out knowing i woke up a minuit later. and it was still playing!, the plot was bad, the sex was a nightmare, i know the deference between having sex and trying to fuck, i mean there body language is saying "get it over with all ready" come on are you there yet?, the girl, and the guy are saying, if you would move a little and stop sounding like a recording and make a facial expression, maybe we will get somewhere., that was the whole! movie!. and don't get me started on some hard core that is a whole other store, but I've never had the pleasures of reading a erotic novel my self maybe on my 21birthday i will get one as a gift can you suggest a few good Arther's to me

I rarely read erotica as leisure reading, for me it's purposeful. I'm reading either to get turned on or because I am turned on. Either way, I want to get off. Therefore, I prefer action to storyline.

My old best friend used to read a lot of erotica. I picked one up once and flipped to a random page. The first thing I read was a girl going, "I don't remember it being this big last night!" Last time I ever picked up an erotic fiction LOL
10/02/2010
I like some story as a background, but I find myself skipping ahead to the juicy bits most of the time.
12/01/2010
I like something with a little bit of plot, rather than just endless sex scenes, but the sex has to be there.
12/02/2010
I like a good story! Most recent book that stands in my mind that was good reading that way, was Mind Guest. (Sci-fi, but it has this one part of the story...I've actually dog-eared the page! lol)
02/06/2011
I had to pick the third because I like a balance in what I read. On one hand, yeah, I like a good story but I want it to set the pace for the erotic bits later on. Pacing's every bit as important as content to me.
