I just watched The Crazies a few nights ago on Netflix, I didn't think it was "scary", but I did very much like the movie for it's "creepy" quality and it's ability to make you wonder how you would react in a pandemic situation.
I agree with Miss Nessa, a lot of Asian films are absolutely AMAZING. The american remakes can be "ok" sometimes, but i don't think they can quite capture the original's freak out factor.
As cheesey as it sounds "Trick R Treat" had some scary moments in it, and the campy humor in between made it fun to watch and contrasted the brutal moments. Audition and "Let the Right One in" are on my ques list, i may watch one tonight. lol!
Event Horizon is also a very scary movie in my opinion. It's a (pardon the phrase) Mind-Fuck sort of movie. It is one of the very few movies that has ever given me nightmares, and I love it for that. LOL!
Also, Steven King movies were mentioned. The Mist freaked me out a bit. There was plenty of scary, sudden gore moments. There was the human drama element, people reacting in ways natural to human patterns of thought, that were freaky and disquieting. I appreciate the sociological aspect to movies. And the end, especially if you're a parent, is a huge "WHAT THE F***" moment. I swore after watching that movie that I hated Steven King, then I realized that he succeeded in writing another plot line that would disturb someone, and that was a job well done. So then I bought the movie to watch it again. haha!
