How Often Do You Go To The Library?
05/30/2012
I like to buy my own books because I'm a hoarder like that, but I have a card for my son. We check out books for him. I didn't think that counted for me though.

Every day? Good for you! I love the library. My kids and I go to at least two different libraries several times a week in the summer. Keeping track of all those due dates is a hassle. Our libraries use the system when you get a receipt at the end of checking out, no due dates in the books.

I have a library card...

As a resident, my library card cost $0.00 (it's funded via municipal taxes), though I believe the cost for non-residents is $90.
$350 is insane. I don't know if I'd pay that amount for a library card, unless it was the Library of Congress. less

But, you can check you due dates on the internet and even renew books there. It is a good system, I miss having the due dates IN every book.
The money we pay for our card is (supposedly) the same amount we would pay in taxes if our home was in the village proper. I know people who live in the village and their tax rate isn't nearly that high. I think they like to screw the people who live in unincorporated.

I'm willing to bet they'd be happy to forgive it. Or at least you pay the cost of the book, plus a small handling fee and then get your card renewed.

I can't tell you how many books I've lost over the years. When we go, between just my youngest dd and myself, we can take out 40 or 50 books at one time. They are bound to get lost once in a while.
They can't charge you for fines PLUS the cost of the book, and most libraries have a limit for fines (our library's high limit is $8.00 per book in fines, then the fines stop.)
Go back, talk to the librarian and see what can be done. I am willing to bet you will work something out.

I haven't used the public library in years. Mainly because I use my universities library when I need something. i don't take book out very often but i do frequently use other services such as journal access.

I don't like my local libraries, unfortunately. Instead of the calm and silence I remember them having as a child, they're full of loud high schoolers and it just feels wrong I use my friends as my library, or just buy my books.

I love to read I buy all my books and I have a Nook.

I love using the library as a resource when I'm starting a new project!

I used to go every week as a child. When I was in my teens, I'd be there several days a week. The main library was very close and convenient for us. Now we live near a branch that's, well, a branch. Doesn't have much going for it, so these days I mostly check books out electronically.
I still love wandering through shelves full of books, though.

I go every week because my son goes to story time. I also pick up some books for myself.

I mostly read non-fiction and none of the libraries in my area have very good non-fiction sections. I always check and see if the have the book I want, but they rarely do.

I have four library cards, haha. Two from my schools and two from cities. The cities have multiple branches, so really I can go to any of about 40 libraries near me. I could also get a card from the biggest city I live near which would open up my possibilities to possibly double that.
I go to libraries more often during the school year. Usually I buy books I want to read for pleasure because I'm a slow reader.
Libraries also kind of gross me out in the same way public restrooms do... only it's like borrowing a public toilet for a few weeks. (If that makes any sense....) I know all too well the horrors of homeless people (and others) leaving excrement, people eating food which attracts bugs and rodents, and the worst: bed bugs.

I'd go to the library, but I tend to like buying books. I'll probably go when I have more free time again

Libraries still exist?
06/28/2012
