Yeah, me too. I said I start around the 19th of December. Except for a Craft Fair in our town in November, I get nothing done until it's almost Christmas.

Usually I've already started by now. This year I haven't though. We've just been too broke. Boo!

Wow, some of you guys are SO organized!
I start picking things up during the fall, and try to be done by mid-December. I make a list of things to do or buy, but always get things spontaneously when I stumble upon those little perfect surprises.
I like to make things during the holidays - cookies, fudge, brownies, soups, hand painted frames and such. And my kids are really getting into that too. For those things, there is planning and lists and whatnot.

I don't do a lot of holiday shopping. I prefer giving gifts throughout the year. This year, though, I pre-ordered the game Call of Duty Black OPs at Blockbuster last week as a sort of early Xmas present. I'm buying it for my brother and nephews, and they know about it. I won't be saving it for Christmas. Once it's been bought it's theirs to play. I just don't see the point in making them wait for a holiday.

I pick up things here and there all year long. My children were conveniently born in Oct., Nov. and Jan. So pretty much earnest buying begins in Sept. and continues til Jan. There's times when I find things though out the rest of the year as well and stash away. As we speak I have a collection of DVD's in my computer stand that will be for Christmas lmao
The bulk of toy shopping is from Black Friday. Yeah I'm one of those people I love Black Friday. It's the one day a year I get to get up go out, no children, no hubby and a open credit card. That's my no questions asked fun day. Course I'm usually home and back in bed before the kids wake up so it's all good.
I try to have shopping done and finish wrapping before the kids get out of school for the holidays but there's always the food shopping and that last minute gift that needs to be had lol

I start thinking about it in about October and procrastinate until November and then actually do something about it in mid-December... sometimes leaving things until the days before Christmas. That seems to be a similar pattern every year... but it always gets done eventually.

Some things we get during the year, but do most of it online on Thanksgiving weekend. We stay away from the stores and crowds.

If I see something throughout the year that I know someone will really like, I'll get it and put it in my 'Present box', but I am definitely always started by August. I like to be done by November 1st.
My plan always backfires though, because I keep seeing things after November, and end up buying more than originally planned.

Well, my sister starts present shopping many, many months in advance. So, by extension, if I accidentally say I might get something for someone in September, she'll go out and get it, I buy it off her, so technically I start shopping far too early, too!

a month or two early at least!

I usually start shopping around September, though I do it very slowly. I like to get the best deal possible on gifts, so I will buy things when different online stores have good coupons or discounts going.

I usually start buying for the holidays in Sept/Oct but I'd like to start earlier this year. I was thinking about starting soon to start putting stuff away. I hate shopping in December when the malls are so busy.

I know it's only October but really the Winter Holidays are JUST around the corner. If you really think about it there's only 2 months and 9 days until Christmas, and less than 2 months until Hannukah. I know there are many other Holidays celebrated this time of year, but these are the two we personally celebrate with gifts..so they're the only ones on my radar at this point in the year!
A friend of mine starts for the next year in January. I personally don't start until October..then I start my planning but usually don't make many purchases until Black Friday. I like to be DONE by my December though. My husband would be perfectly ok waiting til the night before and then going out and buying gifts. So what's your usual Holiday shopping trend? Do you wait til last minute or are you done way ahead of time?
Do you make lists before hand or just wing it once you get to the store? I'm a bit of both. I make lists and budget things out and have a basic idea of what I want to buy, but inevitably there is something we find in the store that we have to have for one of the kids and so we buy that too and "budget" is just a joke since it's always blown. less

We both used to be Christmas Eve shoppers. Now he still does, but I try to start shopping in the Fall to spread out the expense a little.

Since that time is slowly sneaking up on us I am reviving this thread. My shopping is probably 1/3 completed already.
