I don't really understand the point of "gold stars". It's like saying someone is better at being gay, or more gay than someone who isn't a gold star. But maybe I'm missing something, since I just found out about this term in the past month or so.

After googling it, apparently it refers to a gay man or lesbian who has never had sex with someone from the opposite sex.

For those of you who know the lingo, please feel free to correct me if this is wrong.

Wow, that seems pretty elitist if it's an accurate description.

That is my understanding of it as well. Which is why I really don't get it.

Huh. What a strange idea that there's a label for such a situation. I'd never heard of this before

Attraction & sexuality are on a sliding scale. Most people need a few at bats to figure out what gets them going and even then it is subject to change and revision. Complex!

First time I've ever heard of this term, and I worked at a gay bar for 4 months. So uh, I'm assuming it's not something that people commonly talk about.

Wow...I'm surprised at the poll results. I always assumed most lesbians had never been with guys. I have. Thought I was in the minority, and thought it must mean I have to be bi and can't possibly actually be gay. Very interesting question...thanks for asking it.

Most of my exes have been "gold star" lesbians. Of the ones that weren't, most had never had intercourse with any men. I don't think it means they're better at being lesbians or anything stupid. It's just a way of saying a lesbian who hasn't ever had sex with a man. Or alternately, a gay man who has never had sex with a woman.

Paradoxica, I don't think having never had sex with a man means you must be bi, if you've only had sex with girls and are content that way. It's the same as a straight person who's never been with someone of the same sex. For the most part, most people who've only had sex with the opposite sex are rarely challenged. If they're happy that way, they're presumed straight and everyone is usually fine with that unless they start expressing malcontent or curiousity but if a person has only been with the same sex and is happy that way, they still always get questioned how they could possibly know they don't like the opposite. Silly dual standards.

Yeah, this term strikes me as a bit elitist, but it sounds like the kind of thing you'd mostly use jokingly. It's never come up, but probably a few.

Two that I'm aware of (and a few more that might be, but it's not really important/the kind of question I ask). I've also only heard the term used in a tongue-in-cheek way In Real Life.

"Gold Stars" just seems like a bizarre way to say "I'm a special snowflake."

I don't really know what a "gold star" is... or why it should matter >_> it's just more terminology to make some people feel special and exclude others in my opinion but it's w/e floats your boat really. As long as personalities click it makes no difference to me what someone thinks of themselves or uhhh labels themselves.
