Id like to know where the EDEN community stands when it comes to the legalization of Marijuana, do you believe it should be legal? if so why? if not then why not? maybe your on the fence about it, explain why your not decided yet. I believe it should be, it helps people with different illnesses in many ways, but I only think Medical marijuana should be legalized everywhere, anything else is a no go for me.
Should Marijuana be Legalized? if Yes, why? if No, why not?

I'm very Libertarian, which would explain my vote. It should be regulated and anyone 21+ years old should be able to smoke it if they desire. It's a lot less destructive to society than alcohol or tobacco.

So you mean Amsterdam, right? The city that smells so bad that marijuana smoke smells like freshly baked bread compared to the piss-filled canals? The city which has become so lax and borderline out of control they are reconsidering their stance on the legalization of drugs and prostitution? That city, right? (There are very few countries/cities where drugs are legal, Amsterdam is the most notorious.)

I'm not picking on you, I'm just saying that in a world where drugs can be created and idiots can get their hands on them it's never going to be perfect so to say a city is doing well is relative to how bad things could possibly be. Whenever humans are involved the depth of depravity and misuse has no bounds. So yeah, they're doing well but is it well enough?

I would support the legalization but only under certain restrictions, ie. medical marijuana.
11/05/2012
Absolutely, 100% yes. At LEAST decriminalize it.

It's the same as alcohol and cigs, really. Nothing super addictive about it either, so maybe better. ~_~;

I believe all drugs should be legal, but heavily taxed and regulated. It's my stance that the war on drugs doesn't work because you take out one drug dealer, there is always one to take it's place. Should "they" (government) legalize all drugs and tax them, they will be the drug dealers (no different than being your pharmacists.) Government regulation is all around safer because the drugs that people would get would be regulated and the people wouldn't be buying it off the streets. I'm not saying that it should be legal to do drugs and drive, go to work, or the like. That would be public intoxication, which is illegal. Of course there will still be people who sell it and still children who get a hold of it, but the numbers can be greatly decreased with proper regulations.

I don't smoke, but I think we have much better things to spend our money on than prosecuting pot smokers. Unless they're driving high, they aren't a danger to anything not manufactured by the Nabisco corporation.

I believe that it should be legalized, taxed, and regulated. It would SEVERELY help the drug crime problem, ie the people sneaking it over the boarders and shooting people, and it would help to raise tax money for things the US needs. At this point it's EASIER for people under 21 to get it than adults, so legalizing it really couldn't make it MORE accessible to the underaged...

Only medical. Don't care to go into debate on why. Just what I believe.

Only for medical use. I've just voted no on legalization of marijuana in my state. Don't people know that marijuana damages the brain's memory and learning capacity, especially for young people whose brains aren't fully developed?

I don't think people's bias should effect whether or not something is legal. If something as harmless as smoking weed upsets people enough to try to control it by making it illegal, what aspects of life won't they try to control? People tend to act like marijuana has to be the focus of someone's life if they ever use it at all, always debating the extreme cases and not the norm. Sure a total pothead is pretty useless, and no one wants to see that, but does a wino singing in the streets represent the 21st Amendment? I know many people who like to smoke weed to relax, not at work, not every moment of their lives, but just because it's something they enjoy, and why not? Should they face years in jail for this? I don't think so. Marijuana prohibition laws are some of the stupidest, least effective laws in the world. It's like outlawing TV because of it's many negative consequences only more inane.

I have never smoked weed so I don't really understand what people get from it but that being said, from all the studies that have been done, why not legalize it, there are so many great health benefits people can get from smoking it and the government could make a killing off of taxing it etc.. Look at all ths chemicals and junk they put in people's cigarates and they allow those to be sold over the counter.

But, the real reason why marijuana is illegal is because Dow Jones paid lobbyists to hound the government when they discovered that hemp products were superior to their chemical synthetics. And they continue to do so to this very day.

Senseless convictions and jail crowding occur because of how seriously we take this silly, non-violent crime. It's worth supporting legalization even if you don't care about smoking weed.
