What is the real EF educational demographic?

Okay...forgive me, I have to give some "old dude" advice now. Whatever you do, pick a grad school track that leads to a "real job" at the end. It takes just as long and just as much money to get to the end of a degree that has NO job waiting as one that does...and frankly, in the real world, there are mouths to feed (first of all your own) and bills to pay. It is nice to have a job in a field you actually CHOSE to do.

I have a BA in English and happily proved just about everyone wrong by getting a job writing and editing for a travel company just 2 weeks after graduation. I'm still there and enjoying it now that I'm on salary, but it's not a life-long career.

My dream is to get my Masters in Publishing at a Boston university I love, but I have to take the GRE first. And since I'm not a good test taker, I keep putting it off. Lame, I know.

5 years in college. No degree. I put my fingers into too many pies, so to speak. Still, it was fun--I learned a lot

I'm in progress for a BS in Psychology. My major is heavily concentrated in counseling and clinical work. I'll be earning graduate credits before I finish this degree.

I'm looking to continue on to PhD. So many years to go!

I read somewhere that college educated people use more sex toys. I'm going to try to find that article so I can share it. It's funny because the people who voted in this poll have different educational levels than the average population.

"37% of women with some college education (but not a degree) were current sex toy users, compared with 26% of women with a college degree and 29% of high school graduates with no college education."

From this interesting article about women and sex toys.

My husband (who also loves toys) has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He also has some graduate credits under his belt.

I went back for a semester in 07, but couldn't get the money around to keep going. I was going for a teaching certification at the time in History, Speech, and Math.

Highest is high school diploma, but I'm in training to be a dog groomer. I know it's not as glamorous as other jobs here or that I have wanted in the past, but I love animals and love my job.

WOW...this is an amazing window to this "population". Really a wide range of people here...all interacting in a great way. How cool is that???

I wasn't sure what to choose, so I voted "other". The system of higher education in my country is somewhat different. I entered the University before Russia joined the Bologna Process and finished my 5 year "Specialist Degree" program this summer. But now Specialist Degree is being discontinued, so I decided to go for a Master's degree, just in case my current diploma will mean nothing in several years
I study international business and world economy and also I'm already preparing some stuff for my future PhD thesis

2-year in college

I "have" a 2-year degree, but have enough credits, save 2 classes, to turn it into a transfer degree! When I originally went to college, my adviser told me there was no need to get the transfer degree and to simply take the required pre-reqs for the degree I wanted. That resulted in my taking many years of Science classes (Physics, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, etc...), sadly, we moved and the new college I went to told me I had way too many credits to continue my education, but let me take just enough of the "other" types of classes (English, Speech, Sociology, Psychology, etc...) to kick me out the door with a, in my opinion useless, AA degree.

Two to three more "science" classes and I could have gotten an BA (at minimum), but that requires that I first pay back my student loans...I can't afford to even start until I can find a job, which I have been trying to do since we moved...4 years ago.

Okay, I'm done whining.

I'm obnoxiously over-educated. It doesn't translate into being able to get a job all the time, though. Kids, illness, what you studied (I know someone with a PhD in Philosophy who is close to being homeless.) all have impact on ability to get a job.

I've been tempted to lie about my education (by saying I have less) to be able to get an entry level job just to bring some money in. I can't do shift work in nursing anymore (lotta good all that education did me) due my health, my home business is bust, but when employers see my credentials, they assume I'll "quit as soon as the economy gets better" so they go with a 22 year old girl with a HS diploma, instead. But, I can't do it. I won't lie on a job application. They'll have to take me as I am. Having been self employed is poison to this job market.

My middle child is starting Grad School, I really pray she'll be able to get a decent job. Of course, she chose a very specialized field. *sigh* I have no idea if she'll ever be able to quit working at Spencers. I hope so.

I'm in college now for the second time. I went after high school for English and decided I couldn't do anything with it so I switched to Marketing. Then I realized I'd just increased my already three year stay by two more years, got frustrated, and left because I didn't really like marketing anyway and had a good paying job.

I worked in insurance for a year and then got into finance. I've worked in finance and banking for four years so now I'm back in school to get my finance degree so I can get my Certified Financial Planner designation. If I don't hate school too much when I'm done I might consider getting my MBA.

Ph.D would be highest, but I'm still in school because I haven't chosen a specialty. I'm currently considered a student, although I haven't been for 2 semesters because I haven't found the time with work.
