Definitely sounds like you're going about it the right way, for the right reasons. I think you'll do fine. Even if it turns out to be a 'meh' experience for you now, you may decide to return to it later. Human sexuality is so varied and so flexible. Have fun... there's no rush. Enjoy the learning process and don't push yourself too hard, or beat yourself up mentally. Your body may take a while to catch up to your curiosity.

I just want to remind you also that this is going to take time; possibly months. And if you feel like it's something you can never do, don't force it because it's totally okay. Just because a lot of other women like it does not mean that you have to. There are a lot of women who don't like anal either. It's like any other sex position. I don't like cowgirl, but I know a lot of women who do. You're not crazy or abnormal ok? Good luck!

And don't let your partner rush you into something you're not ready for. If he tries just remind him that you're working towards loving it - and if you love it he's going to get it a lot more often.

Be slow. Lots of lube. And if it hurts, stop. Try a nice plug, a small one, and work your way up from there. And don't do drugs or booze for it, you could not feel something that is causing damage.
