It's a good thing to have an editor IF the editor actually reads the review. I've seen reviews that have gone through editors before and still have horrible mistakes. It's just the way I've been trained. I was once a copy editor for a publication and my job was to catch mistakes. I even catch myslef marking in a novel I'm reading if they mispell something or use the wrong form of of a word.
When is the next round of Editors picked?

I feel awful sometimes, like I was just reading an annual letter from my aunt and reached for a pencil to strike out a repeated word... oh dear. Luckily at least with most mistakes it's dispassionate and I don't get sad.

I think this is the opposite of what she was saying. The reason she waits til you have a few reviews above 5.5 is so that she can read your work *without* the advantage of an editor.

If we get past a 5.whatever rank based, at least in part, on the spelling and grammatical correctness of our writing AND our reviews pass through an editor, that is 100% unfair. In that scenario, we are being "graded" on the quality of the EDITOR and not the reviewer's writing skills which may be be incorrectly edited by an EDITOR? If I am to be graded on my spelling and grammer, let me be rewarded or downgraded based on MY skills and not some arbitrary editor who receives my review to read prior to publishing.
