So, I applied about a month, and am wondering when to expect the next round of editors to be picked?
When is the next round of Editors picked?

- 4
- 5
Will be nice to find that out - I applied about 2 months ago.

The rotation was supposed to last about 3 months or so, which should be ending around now if that is still true. However, I would recommend contacting Sammi with any specific questions regarding the program.

I was told that I could pretty much kiss the thought of being an editor goodbye if I didn't have like a 5.7 ranking and whatever.
12/13/2011
Wow - that is good to know. I'm guessing it is because of a couple of things. For one thing - there are a lot of people who want to be editors so there is a lot of competition.
In addition, its sorta easy to get to 5.5 because you have an editor reviewing your work and correcting spelling errors, etc.
But once you get over 5.5 you have to do that yourself and that is where the 'fun' comes in. I see spelling errors and stuff from some well-liked reviewers that amaze me. It is almost like they get in a rush and don't read through the review a few times.
So getting to 5.7 means that you're probably doing a good job not only on writing your reviews - but editing them too!

I've seen how rank is calculated but, idk. I've been at 5.1 for a while. I've only done three reviews though, but they've all been rated extremely helpful. I'm pretty active on the forums. A few days ago it popped up to 5.2 but the next day, and with no change in my usual activities, went back down to 5.1 again. It's been 5.1 since my first review. Person X writes a lot of reviews and they're pretty consistent in the quality of writing. Sentences are complete thoughts and punctuated appropriately. The length of the reviews are long enough for me to see their writing skills within maybe 4-5 reviews.
Person Y has written about the same amount of reviews but I notice errors like "to" instead of "too" and minor misspellings. Perhaps they aren't the greatest at using commas correctly. Maybe I have to go through 6 or 7 reviews to get a feel for them because either the reviews are shorter or just have minor spelling errors in them.
Person Z is just now at 5.5 and so far all of their reviews have been edited by people. The reviews look great but I can't tell yet how much editing was done. Did they have spelling errors that the editors corrected? How was their sentence structure? Since there weren't any notes on the review (cause Antipova hadn't done any of the editing) - I can't tell.
Who do you think I'll go with to become a new editor?

OK that sounds great. I've applied in June, way before a lot of current editors, and I have not heard any word back. I'm hoping that I can be an editor because I would love to contribute even more to the community! I've published over 50 reviews, and plan to complete even more, so it would be awesome to be given that position in the near future.

In brief, this is how the program currently works :
Applications are submitted prior to the next rotation. When the rotation begins, editors will be selected from applications on file, and these editors will be eligible to edit reviews in the task market for roughly 3 months. Then new editors will be accepted and rotated in, while current editors will be rotated out. Applications will remain on file until the next rotation occurs, and they will be accepted or declined at that time. Whether you are accepted or declined, you'll get an email notifying you of your status, and if you are declined, you can then submit another application which will be considered during the next rotation. If you have an application on file and decide you don't want to be considered any more, you can let me know.

I ask this because like Texas Mama said, you don't really know what is my work and what was the work of editors when everything that I do goes to editors. I was really working on getting my rank up, because I wanted to try editing. That 0.1 just doesn't want to pop up yet. Oh well, maybe by the time you open it up I will be where I need to be (fingers crossed).

Applications aren't discarded based solely on rank - if your rank is high enough to apply, your application will be considered. A high ranking doesn't mean you necessarily have good grammar, spelling, or the ability to edit reviews. Has anyone been chosen? Possibly, although not during the first group of editors. There are a number of factors that go into the selection.

What I meant was I don't understand the other person's comments because that's not entirely how it works. I understand the rank system in general. You have to remember that it's not just your activity that counts. You're ranked against the entire site so if everyone else is really active, it takes more on your part to gain that next rank and vice versa. For me, it takes like 6 reviews to gain .1 in rank -- with daily forum activity and such. And, unless I'm constantly at least keeping up with activities, I'll drop.

If we get past a 5.whatever rank based, at least in part, on the spelling and grammatical correctness of our writing AND our reviews pass through an editor, that is 100% unfair. In that scenario, we are being "graded" on the quality of the EDITOR and not the reviewer's writing skills which may be be incorrectly edited by an EDITOR? If I am to be graded on my spelling and grammer, let me be rewarded or downgraded based on MY skills and not some arbitrary editor who receives my review to read prior to publishing.

Er, this is to help make the reviews more readable, as a lot of people screw up from time to time. Think of it as an extra pair of eyes. If I were to become an editor and came across a horribly grammatically incorrect review, I'd tell them to go into the mentor program.
