The Edenfantasys site I have noticed is full of some really beautiful and engaging graphics, but I have only just recently (after over 6 months) really gotten comfortable with the lay-out. Even today I had spent over 5 minutes trying to find something that could have been a lot easier to get to. I have been wondering if anyone else has felt that the homepage in particular is a little too cluttered and that the lay-outs in general are not the most user friendly. What do you think?

And of course, I made this anonymous so you can answer honestly. For the record I chose the second option.

Actually, we LOVE threads like these - so please comment in detail! We always consider feedback. Thanks!

I picked the first option. EdenFantasys has one of the best lay outs and graphics of the sex toy websites I've been to.
One thing that I find annoying is when I'm shopping for vibrators, the categories clitoral, discreet, and bullet/egg always get me. I usually have to select all three to find what I'm looking for the first time.

Personally, I really like the front page. As someone who's done a bit of designing (not the coding part, though), there are a few things I'd tweak.
1) perhaps find a way to re-size things so you could put a little more white "padding" between the right sidebar and the center, while keeping it symmetrical. The amount on the left side is great, and makes it much easier to skim things.
2) more white "padding" between the boxes in the center column. Again, spacing things out a bit more may mean more scrolling, but everyone's gotta scroll anyway. The extra space would improve skim/readability, and make it feel much less cluttered.
I agree on the categories issue. I remember a while back that you said that they were re-vamping those, Victoria. Did that get pushed on the back burner, or is that still in the works?

I voted two as well.
One of the first things that I noticed when I first came to look at items here, is that I did not understand why I could not use the 'Refined' search options for some item search. I wanted to do a global search with a generic category and then refine my search with material and color. For instance, click in 'Toys for women', then click 'Refined by' to select silicone, size, color and see what I get.
A broader search like this could bring an interesting list of item suggestions that are somewhat different to what the customer had in mind, and yet have similar characteristics that are pleasant to the customer. Let's say if I want a orange dildo in silicone, but search in all toys for women, I would also see the Sinnflut Phantasy, a Fun Factory vibe, and decide to buy it.

I actually never found it that crowded. It amazes me how much information is on the front page, but I never feel like it's ever too much. The center graphic always manages to pull it all together really nicely.

I think the layout has gotten continuously better since I've climbed on board like a monkey in the night.
Some things seem a little odd, like making URL's under the affiliate part. But i think that'll just come with time and XP points.

I love the site - but I do find that certain searches do not return the specific item I'm looking for. Tagging is a balancing act - too many or too little and you'll disappoint somebody.
I see a ton of great work going on to keep things up to date and moving forward.
Keep up the good work!

I love the site, and I think it is very well laid out.
However, I did not know about EF cafe until yesterday! Its not really this sites fault. Just like any site, a few tweaks here and there could help. I do not know what tweaks though, it is that good.

I really wish it was easier to get to the Affiliate Report page. If I want to check on my progress, I don't want to have to go through three or four pages, and then have to scroll down to find the link to get there. It's information that I want to see often enough that I'd like it to be more readily available.
Also, I am a huge fan of tabbed browsing and am constantly annoyed by the links on EF that won't show me where they go when I mouse over, and won't let me right click to open in a new tab. I want more control over my link-following activity!

I think that the refining your search options you get further into your search would be better if they were as soon as you clicked on 'sex toys for women', but I think that's the only thing that I have a slight disappointment in. I love the layout and think it is probably one of the best if not the best in sex toy website design.

I also agree that I wish the 'Refined' search options worked under all categories.
also, I really like the pink and green and the way it's been slowly phased out in our control panels and on the forums makes me sad. It really helped to pull together the layout and now it seems like there are a lot of loose ends

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts. I agree with the comment made my Luscious up above about spacing things out more. I think a lot of things could be condensed (too many separate links) and there could be a lot more white "padding". All of the images and text get very overwhelming to the point where it's difficult to key in on things. The eye is likely pass over a lot of things simply because it has no "entry point". It skims over everything, is overwhelmed, and often abandons the task of browsing and locating.
Google has often said that a HUGE part of their success is their web design. If you go to their page you'll notice there is NOTHING on it except the logo and the search bar. It's not only trademark minimalism, but it's also incredibly user-friendly and to the point. It also loads very quickly.
All of the images on Edenfantasys can slow older computers down and can also slow the eye down as well. Eyes have to process images and text in the same way that a computer does, and when there's too much the eye can "crash" in the same way that a computer does. It's really important to have places where your gaze can rest and catch it's breath, but there is really nothing on the homepage that does that. It's non-stop information.
Again, thanks to everyone for responding, it was very cool to see what everyone's take on this was. And thanks to Victoria for letting us know that constructive criticism is welcomed and taken seriously by EF!

The searches need to be cleared up a bit. I remember searching for certain things using basic terms and i couldn't find it. for instance "pheromones" and "pheromone" and "pheremones." they all come up with different results, when they are basically related to the same thing. some people might not know that there is a difference between pheremone and pheromone. Sometimes it won't let you search by the type of toy, but instead the actual name of the toy. For instance, "dual stimulation" and "Rabbit." you won't get all the results even though you are looking for the same type of vibrator. Then there is the difference between the "jack rabbit" and "rabbit." Also, when you are looking for something and you search directly through a specific category, instead of term, you can use the material safety guide search on the left column (where it shows you toys made in the range of materials you choose from) but if you instead tried to search through a specific word term, the material safety guide search isn't there. sometimes I accidently go to my public profile instead of account and I try to edit a review and I can't, because it will only let me edit the review if i go to account and then go to review program and then go to reviews and then press edit. can become a little exhausting. It would also be nice if there was an auto save of reviews you are writing because having to go through each section and press save can be tedious. sometimes you don't notice that you forgot to press save on one section and then you lose it all. Some websites have this thing where it will auto save every 5 minutes. I like the colors and I like the graphics. I especially like the fact that you can press on the actual size picture where it gives a comparison to a ruler or quarter. I like the review section and that it is separated by a comment section. I don't like that I have no way to see if someone has commented on the forum discussions that i've participated in. When I first signed up i could, but once I started following others, I only can see their discussions and not mine. the only way i can see anything is if i go to email. actually i'm not sure if there is any notifications for the forums.

I had something to complain about but I went to look at it again before I wrote about it and realized I DID have the option to do what I wanted So... thanks!
(I was wanting to see all products made by a manufacturer via one of their product pages.)

Honestly the only thing that bothers me is that it's no longer easy to see if there are already two verified reviews on an item. I especially find it hard when I am trying to explain to a new reviewer how to check to see if an item is eligible.
Everything else I don't really mind.

I too like it but it can be confusing. I think just too much info is packed in here. I have recommended some people to the site and some said it was very cumbersome.

I actually don't mind the layout. But then again I only joined right before the change, so I didn't get quite used to the old way to make such a difference to me. I've gotten quite familiar with the current layout and can find what I'm looking for quite easily.
08/03/2010
It is quite annoying because I only recently finally realized where everything was and knew how to find what I needed. Earlier it took me 5 minutes on one page to find the product code when I knew exactly where it used to be. Makes me sad
But everything does change eventually. I just miss the old layout.

I'm anti-change. I liked the way it was, so I'm going to vote that I'd rather it go back to how it was. I mean, the new design is pretty, but I get lost.

I think it could be more streamlined, definitely, but I feel that way about a lot of websites. For now, I think it's pretty great!

What about the mentor review submission process, I found it really confusing that I had to go all the way back into the mentor section to manage my class to edit my review so that I could re-submit to my mentor. Could it be put into the reviews section, where you manage other reviews that are not being approved/edited with the help of your mentor...or maybe you can I just don't know about it...
