Yeah, I'm still paranoid. Whether or not he loses votes doesn't mean it wasn't something he said to get more votes. It will just mean what he said didn't work. I didn't say he did it for the votes. I just said I'm paranoid. I ... more
He probably should of. But, it's politics. He had to feel out both Congress and the Country to see where he stood. I know it sounds selfish, but it isn't. He means a lot and does a lot for a lot of people. I think he needed to make his way into this slowly.

Politics is difficult, especially when you are the first black president. Like I said, there are people just waiting with baited breath for him to screw up.

There are a LOT of things to take a stand on, this is only one of them. An important one, without doubt, but the way politics is, it's hard to know how something will be taken. He has 350 million people to worry about. I think that's important to be somewhat diplomatic.

It's just the way I see it. Yes, it's an very important issue, but there are other issues, too. And he has to get those taken care of as well.

Question is... what's he going to DO about ... more
I think we also need to understand that "legalizing" Gay marriage is going to be a State Issue.

Meaning the best the Federal government could do would to be prevent some silly amendment to stop Gay marriage (like Santorum wants) Then it would be up to each state to legalize Gay Marriage. There isn't going to be a necessity to make a "gay marriage amendment" only to stop the far Right from trying to push through an ANTI-Gay marriage amendment.

Then, hopefully, the right to marry whoever one loves will sweep through each state. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that is how it will be done. I doubt it will be a full Federal Law. Federal Laws are difficult to pass, unless it's something similar to the Roe V Wade decision, but then there would need to be a clear Constitutional Challenge. I know there has been hope for a case for years, but nothing has been presented to the Supreme Court yet. I think it's going to go state by state. Not Federally.

As the Constitution says nothing about marriage in any form to start out with, it would be a challenge to have a Pro-Gay Marriage Amendment, as there no any kind of marriage clause in the Constitution. One that people have been looking for an in for years.

I'm glad he finally stepped up. I wish he would have done it SOONER, but...

I hope a law passes that gay marriage is a thing that can happen in every state across America, though I'm not sure if that would be possible. I hope it is.

May I ask you why your views are so conservative? There is no such ing as no abortion, only no safe abortion. And as for gay marriage - it doesn't involve anyone but the two parties involved. I'm a little curious as to why you're active of a site that is so sex positive and so liberally slanted when your views seem to be the opposite.

You can still be sex-positive and be close-minded about some things. I'm pretty closed-minded about anal sex. I don't like it, I won't do it. I don't care if anyone else does it, but I don't enjoy hearing how wonderful and awesome it is for other people because it grosses me out. It's the act, not the people doing it, that I'm bothered by. Actually, it's not even the act, it's the aftermath of the act. Hahaha

I have a hard time believing any politician during re-election year, especially a presidential candidate who has done very little good during his first four years.

The other issue I have with this is.. what difference does it actually make? He may be our president, but that doesn't mean he can give us everything we want. In fact, the presidential role has very little power when it comes to passing laws. He can run around and talk as much as he wants, but if none if the House and the Senators don't agree, it doesn't much matter.

For this reason I pretty much think he's just trying to earn the liberal vote.

Only that not really the definition of "closed -mined". Both closed mined and open-mined have preferences. The closed minded anal analogy for what going on here would be you hoping they repeal Texas v. Lawrence.

It a risky strategy , yes liberals would be more likely to vote for him but Independent and republicans would be less likely and the numbers seem to suggest that being against gay marriage matters more for those against it then being for is for those for it. i.e. From my reading of the numbers its easier to get opponents out against it then it is to get supports out for it.
