My arms jerked forward to catch myself and an image of a spooked stallion trampling me to death made me struggle between keeping my head up and keeping balance. Both were impossible, but when I looked up from the dirt floor, my whole body froze. The stallion was gone, the barn was empty, and I was so close to the door that my foot was still in a patch of moonlight. Quivering, I made myself stand up...
