wash it and use it. make sure to mention when you review it
What would you do with a smelly replacement for unexpectedly smelly merchandise?

wash and air it out

I always wash all of my toys once they arrive.... and it it sit out for a while...

Jelly toys are saturated with plasticizers that keep them soft - and that smell really bad. Washing them off removes it from the surface temporarily - but in just a few minutes the smell is back.
Leaving it our will permit some off-gassing to occur - but the smell will linger indefinitely. When the small goes away, the toy will be much harder - think of your dashboard after a few years in the sun.
The best advice is to avoid the smelly toys all together.

my first ever toy was smelly but after awhile it turned out fine. it's just the packaging.

I would try airing them out... And washing them.

Some toys just need a bit of air after their ritual pre-cleaning.

This is good to know. It was probably from the packaging.

Update: Thank you all for your suggestions I've aired them out and the smell is gone. I feel a little stupid for returning my first set, but live and learn, right?

How unfortunate! my Ami had no smells at all! even from the packaging. Maybe its the glue they used?
Just air it out. It should be no problem

Plastics emit the smell of the chemicals they are manufactured from. Put the item outside for at least 30 minutes then wash with hot soap & water. This should do it.

Air them out and clean them a few times before you send them back again

I had ordered a Je Joue Ami about three weeks ago. When it arrived, there was a strong, industrial plastic sort of smell to the toys. This was a concern to me as all the reviews I read for the Ami said that they *had* no smell. So, I arranged to have them replaced to the tune of $12 in shipping. I got my replacements yesterday, and these *also* have the same strong, industrial plastic smell.
So, I'm left with a conundrum. Do I try to get yet another replacement (making the total amount of money sunk into this purchase $62)? Do I try to get a refund (which would make it a total actual refund of $14)? Do I air them out for a while and see if the smell goes away on its own? Or do I take my chances using them anyway? What do you folks think? less

Wash it well then air it out and maybe call to complain to the company, but I would keep it.

I would keep it and hopefully the smell goes away soon.

I'd keep them and air them out at this point, no sense in wasting more money.

Just like what many of the others are saying: I would toss the packaging, wash the toys, let them air dry, repeat and then sniff them. sometimes toys just need a little human love too. <3

Cut your losses. Cheap chinese plastic won't get that much better if it's been two for two.

I'd probably just keep it, unless the smell was still absolutely horrible after multiple washings, in which case I might request a refund.

air it out see if it goes away.
01/04/2013
Sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience. But yeah, I would wash them with soap and water and then air them out.

If it doesn't seem to air out well after washing it, then I would request a refund.
