It is more like oxidizing rather than heat treating, but it does look the same. You can get more colors with the oxidizing.

Here is a exsample of steel. I did this for a contest that Viktor did awhile back.

That is a piece of 1/4" plate steel. I use a torch to cut out the shapes, color them using the torch and them tack weld them back together. The 'shapes' are the Pure Wand, Ryder, Big Boy and the Severin. (real size)

It's alright. One of the best part about these work shops is they will be here for a long long time.

Feel free to post any questions you may have.

Wow, SO interesting! Thanks for doing this, Tim! I'm kind of a novice when it comes to lubes, so it was incredibly informative! Can't wait to see the posts on Friday Melting toys yay!

Wow! Interesting, so there was no real permanent lube damage, right? The silicone is just hard to wash off silicone toys and takes a lot of elbow grease? Awesome!Loved the workshop! Great job Tim. Thanks for educating us.

So here are some new thoughts, after hearing Metis' origin tale of the "no silicone lubes with silicone toys" advice:

If platinum-cured silicone is all but inert, could we find some tin-cured or other-cured silicone, and add silicone lube to it to check the effects? Make a puddle of blue or red RTV, Tim, and see what happens if you slather it with silicone lube. There are lots of other silicone resins that we don't use as sex toys which might not be cured my the platinum (most expensive) method. Let's check some out!

D'oh! I can't believe I missed this workshop... But I did read through it all. Very interesting results, Dwtim, thank you for your experiments.

I am still creeped out at how the toys just popped back into shape, no welts or bruises, after a day or so...

Good idea, I might have to give that a try.

Thanks for the awesome experiment! This was really informative. It seems the mutilation of the material is more harmful for our bodies than the toy. I'm glad/disappointed there were no tragic meltdowns, I expected some of the jelly toys to be a bit more devastated.

Me too. I expected the worst and got nothing. Oh well, it was fun experimenting.

Wow, this is so incredibly interesting! I always subscribed to the belief that incompatible lubes ABSOLUTELY WILL DESTROY YOUR TOY, I guess like many of you I will instead warn against it by way of suggesting a spot test. I'm sure it does have something to do with the quality of the toy material and the lube.
