#EdenLit - Club Meeting-June 11, 2012 @ 7pm EST

Contributor: Airen Wolf Airen Wolf
I am so going to have to write about the Midsummer theme. It just occurred to me as I watch my 2 yr old explore the kitchen that he is sort of a living representation of the changing of the seasons. Watching him is one part amazing one part confusing as hell....

They represent the Fates..Gaiman used them a lot as well as an homage to Shakespeare and there were big in the Prydain Chronicles as well.

Given that most people believe that 'His" works were actually written by a woman there is also a heavy sarcasm in that the "three women" always seem to know what is going on while the men, who are all knowing and wise, seem to have no idea. Level upon level of meaning there, no?

There's that and the whole Christopher Marlowe issue. Not sure who to believe, but it's damn difficult to prove either way. Whose to say Shakespeare wasn't writing Marlowe's work or that the woman wasn't writing for both of them?

Given how women of station or even at general were treated when they admitted to writing talent it's entirely possible...and more than probable!

And given that both had an affinity for women of the night...totally plausible.

Already more analysis than I remember from my HS Lit class! LOL. I couldn't even name one thing that Marlowe wrote.

Alrighty, but back to this topic thing...

Anyone up for going totally fictional and not working off reality to write this month?

I could do that...I rarely write reality anyway.

Dido, Queen of Carthage and other dramas. He was mainly and interpreter for the court until he was accused to heresy. He is often confused with Phillip Marlowe who is actually a character in a series written by Raymond Chandler. LOL

I could most certainly do that.

Well what I was thinking is that we could just kind of show off our talents a little bit and throw out a few words and see what we all bring to the table.

Kind of like the five word assignment but...broader.

Ok so for topic number one: Fiction...total fiction and nothing but the fiction.
Second Topic: Midsummer Solstice and all the changes the season brings.
Third is open topic as usual

Sound good?

Concepts, instead of objects. Does that make sense or have I jumped off the deep end again?

Isn't Philip Marlowe the guy from the Maltese Falcon? And the Brit is Christopher Marlowe, isn't it?

Hmmm...so a story that would be fiction and have to include a specific genre?

Well not genre per se but concepts. Like what we were talking about with Twain and Shakespeare. There were lessons in there. Lessons we all needed to read or learn at some point in our lives.

\It could be an ideal relationship outlook for aliens or how to make enemies in the worst places in the world. Just go nuts!

That sounds amazing! ...and challenging!

Hey Thanks guys for making this meeting one of the most entertaining meetings we've had so far!

I really enjoyed talking literature with you all tonight. I think I have a firm grasp on the topic ideas you guys have suggested. I'll post the assignment forum in just a few minutes and we'll postpone the grammar lesson until next week.
I'd like to get into some character development and dialogue writing in the coming months, and it should be a hoot.

have a great month and happy writing!
