#EdenLit - Club Meeting- September 10, 2012 @3PM EST

Contributor: Airen Wolf Airen Wolf
Welcome to the Eden Lit Club meeting for September, 2012! We will begin this meeting at 3 pm EST.

This past month we discussed poetry and the mini lesson was Writing a Limerick. I also posted all the previous lessons in a more easily accessible format for club members to access.

Our topics were:
*Poetry Open- Share with us your deepest thoughts, or silliest whimsy. Try your hand at a limerick or two. Whatever, however, you decide!
*Open Topic- Have you got some scorching erotica, great non-fiction, or even some fantasy fiction that you'd love to share? This would be the place to do just that.
*Story Start- This is a different sort of event. What I will do is write a generic prompt that each story must begin with, where you take it is up to you. You can go wild, keep it simple, or speak from the heart.

Story Start:
I am not really sure how I got here. I woke up this morning and realized that my world had begun to revolve around these rituals I felt compelled to perform. I made my coffee, ate a bowl of cereal, greeted the family, and then sat down at my desk and logged in. I can't say that I am unhappy with my life, it's just that it's not what I pictured when I was younger. I wanted my life to mean something, to be too exciting for words! Now, I am just happy if excitement gets bored waiting for me to log off and finds someone else's life to rearrange. Still, in those quiet moments when the world is sleeping I dream.

Here's the list of pieces submitted this month:
Call Me Daddy by ChuChii
Diary Of A Psycho Girl by ChuChii
Growing Up by ChuChii
Barefoot by SneakerAndPearls
The Rainbow by AirenWolf
Only In Her Dreams by Twisted Angel

SneakersAndPearls got over her initial concerns and wrote an amazing piece using the story start prompt. She is our SexIs featured writer this Month. So head on over to SexIs and congratulate her!

I shall be here with bells on, even if I wasn't able to get anything other then a limerick written this time around. Boo for work eating all my writing time.

Oh how I have missed participating here. Tons has happened in the last year. My mom passed away New Years Eve and I have been reeling ever since, leaving me as executor and trying to get everyone in line with getting it done. But I am back with bells on..

I would love to participate but, ironically enough, I have my Poetry Projects workshop at that time (I am a university senior working towards her bachelor's degree in Creative Writing). I am fairly new to the Eden Lit forum, so I was also wondering if anyone had any helpful tips for being a part of this awesome-looking community.

Jump in with both feet and, apparently, bells on! We have very few rules except on how to post a piece! Anyhow all you have to do to submit to Eden Lit is post your work on the forum with the heading: #EdenLit- (month.year)-category- title
For example: #EdenLit-(08.2012)-Ope n Topic-Memories

Attend the meeting or just drop in and add your input.

Welcome to the September Meeting of the Eden Lit Club!

This Month we tackled story starts and had quite a few open topic submissions. So what did you all think about the story start? Is that something we might want to continue?

Since I know poetry is a dearly loved form of writing here at EF I have prepared two mini lessons on poetry. One is about how to distinguish meter in poetry and the other is how to read poetry out loud.
I'll post those after the meeting.

Oooh I am excited about those poetry lessons. Espically the one about distinguishing meter, I am always very free form with mine and I just happen to fall into some kind of meter some how.

I saw the story start that Sneakers did and I was very impressed.

There is a lot to be said for natural meter but it is also good to at least understand the role of meter in poetry and why it's important. That way when you break the "rules" you now you are breaking them and...I dunno it seems to make it come across in the poem clearly that you are deviating from "form" for a reason.
I am a storyteller so reading poetry out loud is sort of a passion of mine. When the meter is easy to follow the reading can be so darn easy!

I loved how vastly different her vision of the story start was from my own. Mind you I wrote the story start just after the last meeting and the complete story just a few days ago. So even my interpretation astounded me. It was really fun to write both the start and then the story. I'm hoping some of our other writers will maybe try writing a story start for us of their own!

I really like story starts. They're a great writing exercise. I have a whole book of them...Ok, I just found it again today at the bottom of my closet. Don't judge me.

Hmmmm maybe I am judging you just a little.... Maybe you'd like to pull one out and change it up a bit (we want it to be fresh for the club) and post it for us to work with? I like the story starts and I think it could be a good thing for the club to get people interested. Besides it's really cool when we get totally different stories out of the same start!

I don't mind writing them each month but I'd really like to get other people interested in writing them as well. Just the start mind you, then the rest of us take off!

It's a book of creative writing exercises that I haven't looked at since I became a mommy. Or, at least not for the last few years. I'll flip through it and see if it's got any gems.

Well good! That's what I am looking for. It's a way to give the writers some positive reward for their efforts.
