If you are using Wordpress.com/ (the free version of Wordpress), it's very easy to back-up your blog posts. This method can also be used for the Wordpress.org (self-hosted version of Wordpress), but it is pretty much the only method available when it comes to the free Wordpress software. When you log into your Wordpress account, look towards the left-hand side of your account. Towards the bottom of the left-hand sidebar, there should be something that says “Tools”. Click on that. Under “Tools”, there should be something that appears that says “Export”. Click on that. You can then choose which type of back-up you'd like to do – all content, posts, or just pages. Just save this file in a safe place, and in case something happens to your blog, you can use the “Import” function to restore it!
So what if you use the self-hosted version of Wordpress (Wordpress.com)? You then have a ton more options as you can download your own plug-ins into Wordpress to back things up for you. You can use the above method when you have a self-hosted version of Wordpress, but one of the neat things is that you have more options.
I personally use
Wordpress Database Back-up. As long as you know how to install plug-ins to your Wordpress (if you don't, you can see a
tutorial here), you can install this plug-in to do your back-ups for you! The neat thing is the settings you have with this plug-in. You can have it e-mail the back-up to you hourly, daily, monthly, weekly, twice monthly, or a ton of other options. You can set it to back-up comments, keywords, and other items instead of just the posts themselves. The plug-in gives you a lot of freedom, but if you find you don't like this plug-in, there are other Wordpress plug-ins that will manage your back-up for you as well.
What other questions do you have about backing up blog content?
