Thanks! I'm going to scan in some of my pictures that I have developed.
This might reignite a passion. Don't know if I should thank you or be pissed.
Well, there's a short line for those who want to thank me, and a line that wraps around the block that is pissed at me, so that might influence your decision.
Lovely contrast on the pineapple photo. I need to start shooting more BW.
I can't remember if I shot the second photo in BW or if I ripped the colour out in postprod. Either way, if I did rip the colour out, I desaturated it and then increased the contrast. I should've burned it, but...

I've never been impressed with the BW ability of digital cameras. It's too much like grayscale. I think you pretty much have to tweak the contrast in postproduction with digital - otherwise it's just too flat. D&B helps too, of course.

I must disagree.
Anything I can do in a darkroom I can replicate digitally, except the feel of the enlarger knobs in my fingers or the always freezing water of a stop bath.
Digital isn't better or worse than manual, just different.

Perhaps it is the difference in our subject matter (or possibly even our opinions of what makes for a great BW photo). It is the red channel that causes me the biggest problem because I photograph a lot of scenes with the sky in the image. For me anyway, there isn't enough contrast between the clouds and sky after desaturation and I have to adjust the red channel postprod. Sometimes I need to work with the blue channel as well, but it's mostly the red I have to tweak. I suppose I could solve this with the appropriate filter, but I simply don't shoot enough BW to warrant getting it.

I will agree that I am so amused at seeing blue hued "black and white" photos. When I was on vacation, the professional photo packages that were offered BW had cyan overtones. I commented to one of the photographers, with whom i'd made friends, and he said it made him insane, too, but corporate wouldn't change to a different printing company.

And the smell, you know I miss the smell of the fix HAHA, yeah ok I am weird. However whenever I think of spending time in a darkroom that smell comes right to mind! You are right, stop baths were always icy cold too.

I miss the colour that cotton turns after you spill developer on it for the eighteenth time.

It does have an oddly appealing smell.
I don't miss trying to load the film into the %$#@*$& reel in total darkness.
Oops guess I still can't figure out how to post pictures!
To post photos, probably the easiest way is to mouse-over the little "i" next to the where it says "Links & Formatting" above and right of the box where you post. Copy the last two lines of code (the green lettering), and paste it into the box where you are typing your post. Then, all you have to do is replace "EdenFantasys Logo" with whatever the link (right-click on the photo and choose "Copy Link Location") to your photo is.
