Actually, my recollection (this was taken probably 12 years ago) is that the grasshopper was so high off the ground that the only f-stop I could photograph him at and not have camera shake while hand-holding was f/2.8. It worked out well, though because of its perfectly flat face.
Thanks for the compliments you two.

Oh, I've been to those falls, Vally! Aren't they in Mill Creek Falls Scenic Area? If so, I think the bottom of the two falls is Mill Creek Falls and the top one is Barr Creek Falls.
I really like the composition of the ice photo. I dig that diagonal line of ice.

FWIW, a great resource for identifying waterfalls in the Northwest is Waterfalls Northwest. It has helped me quite a bit when I've been trying to figure out which waterfall I've photographed or those I want to photograph.

Impromptu photoshoot, this was the best out of the lot.
I'm thinking of looking into getting a '4reelz' digital camera that allows me to work with apertures and F-stops and light reading. I did much better work with my old Pentax film camera than I do with this 'point and shoot' digital.

I think both the subject and the photograph look great! You did quite well with the lighting. I see what you say about flash not agreeing with your fair skin, but it sure worked well on this shot. For that matter, it's a nice white light rather than the yellowish light that comes from a lot of indoor lighting.

(I should probably embrace myself a little too... Perhaps I'll take a pic of my hot outfit for the party this Sunday and post it. We shall see. )

I love the blue on the Diadema urchin as well. That's not his natural color, but it works really well in that photo.

The sea urchin, the alligator, and the dart frogs (I forgot to add) were my best of the day. I never seem to get much that's decent out of my point and shoot, but the only SLR I have (if I can find it) is 35 mm and I hate paying for developing. So needless to say, I was rather surprised I got anything from it.

thanks! I was more fixated on taking the pictures than reading the plaques (I get tunnel vision), but I'm going to guess Cayman because both alligators in the tank were the same size.
