They all sound pretty good actually... all can be summed up as eating right and exercising regularly... can't beat that.
Eden Lives Healthy (Voting Poll) Which Contest?

I think making it group activities would be great, as well as maybe combining the individual activities. Some people may not have any one to exercise with at all.

Hey guys! A few quick questions/ideas for you regarding some of the less defined contest ideas.
For the Healthy Recipes contest. Exactly how would you like to quantify what makes a recipe a winner? Would you like to see it as "Who's making the healthiest recipes?" The tastiest recipe? (Which I think would be a little hard to judge because not everyone has the same tastes) Tell me your ideas for how you would like to see this work if it wins!
For the Eliminating Junk/Processed Food contest. My idea on how to judge this would be effective, but may not work for all of you. The only way we have to prove this is if people journal their food intake. That is a very healthy practice, but I'm not sure how all of you feel about showing ounce for ounce what you put in your body. So, I'd love some feedback on this.
Now, for the one I'm most concerned about, the Healthiest Activities with Family contest. This is a GREAT idea. However, I am aware that some of you are:
1) Not married with children.
2) Do not get along with the family members you are around.
So here's what I was thinking on this: Make this "Group Activities." Like take your friends (who we all know can be more like family) and go hiking or rock climbing. Having a spouse or partner that your run with. Taking your small children with you to the mall and walking a mile or two (depending on what your weather is like) or going to the park with them. Swimming laps with your brother or sister. Just doing it as a group/with someone else.
So tell me what you all think! less

So your suggestion would be to combine them into one contest?

I am not sure how to go about making the recipe "work" as a contest. There are many aspects to look at. I think it is almost easier if this was just a "post" idea, like on a previous "post for healthy recipies".

I need IDEAS on how to quantify a recipe contest! This is your idea, so let's get some ideas rolling!
It would have to depend on the word of someone that they made it, for starters. Then giving detailed instructions, for those like me, that can maybe open a can of soup. It would have to state all the pertant information such as calories, fat, etc.
After that it would then rely on the others trying the recipe out and giving their opinions. That is the only suggestion that I have for making it "contest-like"
You could just do a simple - who posts the most, if the goal is to have an easy contest. But I believe, all of us are wanting to participate for a common goal and not the common goal of winning a GC.
I would like to see this become a learning experience with a "dash" of support and a "sprinkle" of goal achievment.

I would like to share a "family" experience we had. This is not just limited to families, it includes anyone.
We took the kids for a walk, granted it was only about 1 mile, but there was a steep hill we had to go up. Since, we still have snow on the ground, thanks to a recent 6 inches dumped on us, the park was not going to be eventful.
Instead, we had snowball fights, built snowforts, and built snowmen. After all that and walking back home, it had been a good 3 hours of constant activity. I am sure we all burned many calories during that time. As we were famished by the time my wife had dinner done.
This simple outing was just as eventful as a tough three hour workout, considering all the movement and muscles we used in the activities.

That said, Vaccinium and I came together with a plan on how to make it work as a contest. This will be fun!

As much as I love getting and sharing recipes, I had to vote for healthy activities as a family after I read your post about extending "family" to be "group." I'm a college girl living about 400mi from any family members, but I would love to get my "college family" more active! I've always found it easier to stay motivated and stick to a workout or exercise routine when working with a partner or a group, and I think that's true for a lot of people. This is also a great choice because it encompasses so much! Anything from bike rides, power walks, hiking, traditional workouts, etc would work for this topic. Besides, anything that gets *more* people active is always a great idea.
