Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey and Robert Downey Jr. were all considered for the role of Edward Scissorhands.

Okay, so I totally should have written down my drunken observations of the movie, but some things I noticed:

1) The suburbanites mediocre similarity.

2) How eager they are to conform Edward to their society. Putting him in regular clothes, etc.

3) I remember thinking, at one point, "These vanilla women probably wouldn't be able to handle all the leather and hardware under that suit."

Discuss.

Tom Cruise would have been an epic disaster. Jim Carrey too. RDJ would have been tolerable.

I point out that shes a lady because its no really that common in my industry, especially to be in charge of a huge project like this. Then to be nominated for an oscar, its outstanding. Its very inspirational to me.

Lmao, in this case I was talking about the Christmas tree. I sent my husband pictures as we were getting stuff up and put together.

So did anyone else pick up on any themes you'd like to discuss? Other observations? Thoughts?

There's a veritable gold mine of allegory in this movie.

Yes, yes, and yes.

I think that a few of them really would have loved to do things more "his way" than "their way" but the taboo of it made them scared and to go into "riot mode." It's a natural reaction to fear that which you do not understand.
