Bread is yucky...no interest in making it
What's your view on breadmakers?

My base sandwich bread recipe tries to escape my Kitchenaide. That's how I got into kneading by hand. It takes about 3 1/2 hours from start to finish (mixing, kneading, autolyse, kneading again, raise, shape, raise again, bake) but the results are oh-so-worth it.

That is so weird. People have been making bread for, literally more than 20,000 years. Bread makers have been around for, what, 20 years? If you get a good key bread recipe, you are set. I don't even look at recipes anymore, unless I'm doing something really different with a new recipe. I just know how to proof the yeast, throw in the flours, salt, honey or sugar, butter or oil and other ingredients I want. I started making bread more than 20 years ago and it's so lovely I would only get a bread machine if I were physically unable to make bread myself. (Which is why I sometimes knead the dough in my Cuisinart, when my Fibromyalgia is acting up and I'm in too much pain to do 20 minutes of kneading by hand.)
I do, however, LOVE my rice cooker. Rice never cooks properly on the stove and all the Asian people I know have a rice cooker and use it daily. I got one about a year ago, and it is perfect. But, rice is just heating and softening a grain. Making bread is an art. less

For the one-hour bread recipe though (I call it cheaters bread and I make it when feeling lazy) it just goes right to the Kitchenaide. I will not bother with that by hand if I don't have to.

I don't use one because the one person I knew who had one hated theirs. It made bread with a really weird taste.

I never saw the need for a breadmaker. I've got two KitchenAid mixers, and even my Vita-Mix can knead bread if I want. And the oven works perfectly fine for baking everything.

My mom always made bread by hand. Breadmakers seem like cheating to me :-p)

Yeah. The objects I use is called my hands. I may be 22 here but that doesn't mean I want to rely on machines like a lot of people think I do (including hubby o_o ah wah?) It's not hard to make stuff using your hands, people did it in the old days, so we can too.

Llamas do not fit in bread makers. Or most ovens, for that matter.
I would probabaly use a bread maker if I had one, but I've just never bothered to get one. I make bread by hand. I'm making some bread bowls for chili tonight, actually.

I haven't made bread bowls in months. I think I may do that coming up.

I need one because I hate making the huge mess of adding flour on my counter

I have made bread in my oven and in my bread machine, and each time the bread has not come out quite right. I still have to play around with the recipe.

I make bread at least once a week and don't have a breadmaker, nor do I want one.
So what's your view? Is a breadmaker a must for you? Love them? Hate them? less

I still have yet to get a breadmaker but it's pretty difficult making bread in the oven, plus they do most of the work for you.

What is it that you find difficult? Just curious.

I own and use a breadmaker from time to time. I really enjoy the rustic look and texture of the bread. I feel that it's better than going to Panera Bread because I can create my own flavors. The best part is that I can get the warmest slice of fresh bread right in my own kitchen!

This is the breadmaker that I purchased after doing a lot of research into the best model for the price, ease of use etc.

I am cooking illiterate! that being said if it needs yeast or any other special ingredient I don't make it. I have a breadmaker and I used to use it and one day I will go back to using it but now I buy homemade bread from our local organic restraunt and that works for me and my family for now.

I had a bread maker and used it often. I occasionally did it by hand/in the oven but it's a lot of additional work and clock-watching, so the bread maker won out of convenience. The resulting bread was about the same in quality too.
Unfortunately my S.O. had to go gluten free, and gf breads do not really work in the bread maker. I miss it! And would definitely recommend one to anyone interested.
