Oh wow....could you imagine each state setting their own Black Friday?

Does anyone else use a ricer to make mashed potatoes? I only use it for large amounts but it makes the best, smoothest mashed potatoes.

Sounds good! My ex's family dips their strawberries in sour cream and brown sugar. Yuck!

Used to - but we lost our ricer in one of our many moves. Need to get one again.

Don't say that too loud - the stores will start lobbying for it!

And my dad jokes he should never have married my mom after seeing how hard she struggles to make a pie crust come out... but she cooks everything else right, so he forgives her

Some turkey trivia! North Carolina produces the most turkeys in the United States. A wild turkey can run 25 miles an hour, and fly short distances at 55 miles an hour. Only male turkeys gobble, females make more of a clicking noise. Baby turkeys are called poults. The skin that hangs over a turkey's beak or nose is called a snood, and it turns bright red when he's upset or courting. The dangling skin under a turkey's neck is called a wattle. A full grown turkey has approximately 3,500 feathers.

My family prefers chunky mashers, but I always wanted to try a ricer.

Unless something's done with pectin, I mean.
Gelatin is animal-based, sure, but "meat"? I'm going to go out on a limb and define "meat", for conversational-culinar y purposes, as "muscle". I personally prefer to keep my pyrolyzed muscle tissue out of my rendered skin slurry. They're much better separate.

I use my mixer - that way I can leave it mixing on low and add a ton of butter, garlic, and crumbled bacon They come out SUPER smooth, and so yummy

So now that you're armed with a lot of good recipes for the coming week, I'm ready to give out my first $25 EF gift card. If you've already won one from Sam, I think we're trying to let a new person win each card. I'll give everybody a minute to recollect, and then I'll ask the first trivia question. Usually the second giftcard is given to someone who can guess an unusual kitchen implement, but my camera's not cooperating, so we're going to have more of a bridal-boquet-toss "trivia" question for the second.

Yeah, just press the cooked potatoes through small holes. It smashes them and fluffs them at the same time.

Now that the kids are gone mostly I'd been using mix...y'all are gonna have me making REAL mashed potatoes this year - especially since my son will be home. (But we're having ham instead of turkey per his request).

If you make ham, throwing some of the drippings in with mashed potatoes can be an amazing mix

My ex-husband explained it as: "Potatoes are a base for other tastier things to sit on."

I add a tiny bit of sugar or sweet n low....don't know why - its what I was taught by hubby's "second mom" (adopted in his heart). He grew up in potato country and that is what she always did....
