Hooray! Welcome!

For a little conversation while we congregate, do you usually consider eggrolls an appetizer, or a whole meal?

How do you usually eat them?

Both! I eat them with soy sauce.

Both depending on how hungry I am. And I normally eat them plain myself, though I have this strange habit of using a fork to eat out the filling and THEN eat the wrapper.

Depends. I'll eat them dipped in soy sauce or just plain. They can be a meal or appetizer, depending on how hungry I am. I'll usually have half an eggroll with a meal.

I've never seen anyone do that before! Does much of the flavor of the filling remain with the wrapper?

Nope, stick around right now! We're getting started! Just read along, and hit F5 to refresh the page.

I do the same thing! It's not so much the flavor I like of the filling as it is the crunchiness of the wrapper itself. I always have two rolls with an entree and I use plum sauce or duck sauce to dip them.

Aaah, interesting I often don't eat the tips of my crab rangoon, I guess you'd consider that sacrilege.

A good amount from the types I have had, I haven't made them myself yet.

I just bite the top off and get the rest, my boyfriend thinks its crazy but it works for me. I also eat all my sides first before ever starting the main part of a dish on my plate.

Oh, no we'd make the perfect pair. I'll eat the tips, you can have the filling.

So, eggrolls are a pretty involved dish! So I'm going to get the introduction of the meeting rolling right now:

Welcome to the June meeting of Eden Cooks, everybody! After last month's meeting on Chinese steamed fish, lots of people were clamoring for a meeting about eggrolls. I had been pretty clueless about eggrolls, but armed with a good cookbook and some cheerful friends, I learned enough to make a whole batch of eggrolls completely from scratch (even rolling the wrappers by hand!) and show them off.

Have you ever made a recipe by somebody's request and been surprised with the outcome?

I love the wrapping though. It's surprising that I'm the weight I am, I could eat the wrapping of those things all of the time.

Yes! My toffee...came out way better than I ever anticipated. I'm not much of a candy-maker so I was impressed.

Yes! Once I made lollipops for a friend's party, and I was terrified and sure they wold come out deformed or something. They turned out perfectly! Haven't made 'em since, though, because I'm terrified of boiling sugar

Not particularly; I'm a rather terrible cook. I am able to cook excellent french toast, but that's about it.
