Do you let your desserts cool before you cut into them?

Contributor: Antipova Antipova
I ... love warm moist fresh-baked cookies. I never wait for them to cool.

Sometimes I try to adapt my "now now now it tastes best when I can't hold it in my mouth!" strategy to other desserts, though... I just made this delicious pie in order to practice for the next Eden Cooks / Holiday Party meeting, and it smells soooo good right out of the oven that I really want to eat it.

But I know if I cut in immediately, the starch won't set and my pie slice will be a pie glop instead of a pie slice.

How diligent are you about this?

I let desserts that need to set cool, but for things like cookies I'm eating them as soon as they're out of the oven.

Cookies get no waiting at all! Other things I'll mostly let sit for at least a little while, but the patience level depends on the situation (how hungry I am, how amazing it smells, how much I'll ruin it by rushing it)

I'm pretty impatient. I like cookies straight out of the oven IF I even get them baked. Cookie dough FTW.

I'll be the first to vote let them all cool, hehe. As I posted in another thread speaking of cookies:

"I like my cookies chewy, but I make mine with 2/3 all purpose flour and 1/3 glutenous (as in gummy, not full of gluten) rice flour. That way the center stays gooey and the edges stay harder.

I suggest it to everyone. They reheat better that way, too. "

I used to like brownies out of the oven when I was very young, then I acquired a taste for the chewy, crisp edges. Now I only make them in an all edge pan and let them cool. xD

Make sure you do 1/3 for baking anything that isn't intended to be made 100% with rice flour. I make mochi every now and then, so that's always 100% but in other recipes even doing 1/2 makes it a grainy in texture.

I also had gotten 12 pounds of Mochiko Sweet Rice Flour on Amazon for dirt cheap. One half of a box is good for the 1/3 flour I use in my cookie baking, which tends to be 24 large cookies. It has lasted me a while. c:

Oh my gosh! I want to PM you for your mochi recipe, but you haven't published your profile yet! Either do hat, or send me an email at the address listed on my profile... I'd love to get you a few gift cards in exchange for posting a few recipes in the club blog if you were interested, too! (Only if you were interested, of course)

But I'd love to learn to make mochi, even if you don't want to teach the whole internet. Mmmm.

This is making me want to bake so badly now!

My oven only half works so baking is a little difficult at the moment.

I have to have them right out of the oven. Can't help myself.

My husband lets them cool.

I'm just getting to understand the site, haha. I'll publish my profile and toss a PM your way. It's surprisingly easy, though I ended up needing to toss my first batch because I botched it. ;]

Edit: More then happy to give a few recipes to the group. I have plenty for cooking and baking galore. C:

Cakes I let cool, just cause I like them with icing, they also take better when they are about a day old, to me they just have a better taste.

it all depends on if the dessert was designed to be eaten warm or cooled down.

I try to let them cool but sometimes I can't help it. I made the apple cakes today. OMFG they were soooooo GOOD!. Will see if I can put some pictures up. It was my first cake from scratch. My daughter says that I have to go out in the morning and get some more eggs and apples because she wants to have some at home too. As of right now we would only have enough to take to our relative's house.

If it's not going to ruin the dessert then I'm like a vulture flying above ready to swoop down and take my pickings! lol My fiancee does almost all of the baking while I'll do almost all of the cooking. She gets rather annoyed as I'm impatiently hanging around saying "Is it ready yet? Can I try some now?" haha it just smells sooooo good!

Generally it will be cookies that I will eat while they are still very warm, moist, soft, gooey and chewy mmmmmm.

....cookies and brownies often die as soon as they're cool enough that I don't burn my mouth.
But if it's something more fancy like a cake I spent a while decorating I usually wait a lot longer. x'D
Those cakes get a freakin photoshoot before I'll even touch a knife.
