I do but I don't like cooking much these days
Do you know how to cook?
05/24/2011
I do cook, and know how to cook, though I'm always learning new things to cook and how to cook better. I consider myself a beginner cook, so most of my dishes are pretty simple.
I make a mean cheese sauce and a home made pasta and cheese sauce that is to die for. My "cookies of chocolate bondage" always seem to go over well with others...

I (lovemuscle) do majority of the cooking, like 90% worth. I guess I would call myself a technical cook. I can't cook on the fly, and must have a recipe to follow (or one that is slightly tweaked to our liking). Right now I am trying to tweak a recipe for creme brulee. Think I will have to break down and buy some REAL vanilla to really make it stand out

My mom was very much a "super mom": she did ALL the cleaning, all the cooking, all the housemaking. On the rare occasion that she let us in the kitchen to help with meals, I usually got booted early because I'm a very careful, precise person who asked too many questions. This didn't exactly nurture a love of cooking.
Fast forward to today: I can follow a recipe and make tasty things, but I have zero confidence in the kitchen and no "street smarts" about cooking.

Yes, I am self taught to. I am damn good at it to. I prefer make everything, however being mother of two boys and a husband who is a big child himself I do not always have the time.

I love to cook and I think I pretty well. I would love to be able to make the foods I see on my favorite cooking shows but it's just too expensive to eat like that all of the time. I'm really known for taking processed foods and turning them into something somewhat gourmet. My fried chicken and beef pot roast will make you slap your momma!

Yes, I know how to cook and bake. I love baking more than cooking though. My favorite things to make are cakes and cookies and everyone always love them.

Pork sausage meat, that my butcher (Brian, my buddy) took out of the skins (or whatever they are called) for me and mushed together was taken out of my freezer as I started looking at this thread. I'm making biscuits and gravy for dinner. I don't eat any dairy other than butter, so I use chicken broth instead of milk. Home made biscuits (self rising flour makes the most amazing biscuits) with the sausage gravy on top of them, after splitting them.
It is a dish with no nutritional redeeming factors at all. I make it on occasion, because it is so good. MMMM, my mouth is watering thinking about it.

I know how to cook and I dislike it.
The worst part is cleaning up. Prep work can be annoying, but it is nowhere near as horrible as cleaning.

I have a lot of favorite dishes. I just made up a recipe for Chicken Croquettes this week, from left over full breast chicken Kiev, rice, egg, herbs and spinach, mixed with bread crumbs and rolled in bread crumbs, with a lemon-wine gravy. It was really good.
My best work are things like savory pies and casseroles, poached fish, stews, chicken and dumplings, pot roast, soup, (any kind except bean, the man won't eat it) and Italian dishes like Puttanesca Sauce and Bracciolli (pronounced "Brah-sshoolee" by Chicago Southern Italians.) Braccoollli is a flank steak, cut so it is long, then stuffed with home made bread cubes, mixed with egg, spinach, herbs, (Parmesan or Romano if you want, but I don't eat dairy products) and maybe some olives, then rolled so you can cut it against the grain. You then tie it up (I do a fancy tie, so they are all connected. It looks good.) Then fried in olive oil until brown and put aside while you make your gravy (Italian tomato sauce) in the left over stuff in the bottom of the pot. When the gravy is put together, you put the Bracciolli back in and cook it forever. Serve with yummy pasta, like Fusilli con Buco or Zitoni (really thick spaghetti like straws) Imported tomatoes, paste and pasta makes the best gravy dish.
If I don't know how to make something, I either look on the internet or get a book from the library (or from one of our 50+ cook books) and learn how.
The Man says he's a better cook than I am. He's wrong. less

I love to cook, I have never taken courses for cooking, but have cooked professionally many years. I believe I am good and have been told I am. My wife loves it since she does not really like to cook, she is a baker.

I love to cook! I like to make a lot of things, but one of the best things (in my opinion) that I make is adobo roasted pork with green tomatillo salsa. I also make really good black beans and rice and a good peppered rice.
(I don't particularly enjoy the clean up after the cooking though. )

I love to cook. I come to work every day and swap recipes and discoveries with Rachel. I'm not great with desserts. I'm not very patient or exact, so I like the organic nature of cooking meals.

I love cooking! Grilling and barbecue are my favorites. I also really like French, Mexican and Italian cooking. I've lived all over the country and have family from all over the world, so I've got a lot of different backgrounds and influences to draw from.

I love to cook! I get requests for my Italian dishes but there are a lot of other good main coarse meals I make. Now if you want to talk about baked goods! I've been asked many times "why don't you open a bakery?". I've been told my cakes are to die for!
