A craft exchange would be in the holiday spirit, perhaps.

...something other than bills... and EF packages

But this is definitely a cool idea!

I'd love to see people share ideas for different crafts. It would be fun if every month someone posted instructions for some sort of project and then the next month have everyone show off pictures of their completed project.

For example, if I posted an embroidery pattern (and maybe a photo of a sample that I'd already made) then everyone could stitch the same pattern, but with different colors/stitches/materi als and then we could all compare results the following month.

I can see a couple of things working well---either have like a theme of the month, where we can learn something about (whatever theme) and then we all go off and make our own things in whatever media we like (which makes lots of room for lots of different craft styles) .

Another cool thing would be if Miss D would teach us a new technique each month, like for 15 minutes of the meeting we could learn a technique (like chairascro (misspelled) that Starkiller just mentioned), and then we try to do something with the new method.

or you could even host a meeting showing steps, provide a video even for the after-meeting, and let folks work in along with you and ask you questions live while they're working!

kinda like my mom's painting classes but... online instead of in person.

I could probably participate. Something small shouldn't be too hard to do.

I would, Id make little acrylic paintings for people on cardstock. I think it is very doable.

LOL my mailman was here 4times last week. I had to call and complain because one day I opened the door as he was throwing my box at the door. I had my moonshine in there and was not happy.

Perhaps we could do these as a little supply swap to go along with it? As crafters, I know we all have a bunch of little odds and ends around that someone else would love. Send a little box of goodies with your trading cards inside or maybe a couple hand-made things. The only real issue I see with this is the addresses having to be public.

Id could do a workshop sometime if you guys would like. Like an easy acrylic paint from photos of your pets or something. And just take a bunch of photos and try and do something more basic that everyone can give it a shot.

I might be willing to, it depends how busy things get here and how the set-up would work.

absolutely! many swappers suggest you throw in some little stickers, stamps, etc for the host/hostess as a little gift, but yes we could swap those too.

the addresses would not be public, just public to me. i would have everyone email me when they were ready to mail them and send them MY home address. then i would do the swapping and mail their new cards back to them in an SASE they would have provided.

I never even thought of that, that would be an issue. I am not sure I would be willing to do that.

I think if one person had the list of addresses, you can assign people another person, like secret santa would work. And then you give each person the addresses. So everyone who signed up would give you their permission to pass along the address.

If there were one person who everybody sent everything to, that one person could be in charge of all of the addresses. In theory, if aliceinthehole were our address person, I could send something to her address to send to Starkiller and then only alice would have my address and Starkiller's. I hope that made sense. Rereading it I can see how it's confusing.

Yeah but then alice would have to pick up the shipping charge, which would be unfair. Which why I said she would give out the addresses with permission.

This sounds like a good idea so far. You and I can work out the details. I was once involved in a postcard club kinda like this where I'd send out a few postcards and end up with a mailbox full of them from all over the world and it was really fun.

Hm, that address solution could work for me. I'd probably participate. Is there an instructional guide for how to make artist trading cards?

i would get everyone's cards and swap them individually based on style, quality, etc... so you would likely get back 4 cards from 4 different people.

there are entire websites devoted to this. ATCsforall.com is one, also yahoogroups has a few ATC groups. it's gotten pretty big.

any arts/crafts store you walk into will likely have ATCs already made up. there are big brand names of paper manufacturers who create ATC/sized paper in all kinds of weights for all kinds of media.
