I'm trying to get together a few things for workshops and I want to see how many people sew, have a sewing machine, or hand sew.
Do you sew? Own a sewing machine?

I can sew by hand, but I'm much better with a machine. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with

I hand sew and only know a couple of basic stitches. I would love to have a sewing machine again. It's been quite some time.

I own and use a sewing machine. It certainly saves me money versus going to a seamstress to get clothing altered. I also occasionally put together a quilt or some other crafty project.

My mom hasnt shipped me my machine yet since i moved over a year ago. So ive been sewing by hand.

I've had mine for about four years and it's been sitting there collecting dust for most of the time. I did, however, break it out for a bunch of fun this weekend. I got some ADORABLE fabric for super cheap.

I sew everything by hand because I am too poor to buy a sewing machine. But one day I will have the money!
08/29/2011
I may work on some no-sew projects, as well. Before I had a machine, I used that hem-bond tape for a lot of things. I don't have the patience to sew by hand!

Both. I learned first how to sew by hand but I prefer to use my machine. My machine is an industrial type, I can do leather and canvas but also lighter materials.

My family has those heavy-ass 60's/70's plastic ones that scare the living hell out of me. I'd love to be able to learn to machine sew - the local fabric shop has sewing classes, but we have to provide our own sewing machines. O_o I want something lighter with an instruction booklet ... so I think I'll eventually buy my own someday.
So anything I work on is by hand, and I don't have the ability for even-stitching.
Which is really funny because I sewed most of my own clothes in high school (everything in my size at that time in history were for middle aged women going on cruise ships). I suspect I accidentally started the 'deconstructed goth' look.

I can sew, but mainly use my machine for hemming jeans to the proper length.

I picked up a good machine from Wal-Mart for about $70 3 years ago. They still make it.

Thanks, Miss D - I was looking at Brother machines, too. Very good quality.

I prefer to sew by hand if it's something quick and easy. But we have a Janome sewing machine, Elna sewing/embroidery machine and a plain brand overlocker.
08/29/2011
I have a machine but depending on what it is that I am sewing, sometimes I will choose to do it by hand

That's the ADORABLE fabric I got the other day. I bought the 5 yards they have left.
It's Luca by The Alexander Henry Collection. I'm pretty much in love with all of the fabrics in that entire collection. I want all of them! They have skulls, Japanese/anime things, spooky things, cats, old school tattoo stuff. I need all of it right now.

I have a sewing machine, but I'm not good at it!
08/29/2011
I do both.

I have a sewing machine, I just use it for hemming my pants, I'm not good at sewing.
08/30/2011
yes i love sewing! i have the singer simple & use it for making all kids of things and making alterations. I mostly like using it to sew for the girls, especially dresses! I hand sew too, but prefer not to. Before I got a sewing machine I had sewed everything. I hand sewed and entire shirt once! It took me months and months, but was worth it. I still wear that thing it held up well. Lol.

I have a sewing machine I had a bellydance recital on Sunday and I sewed the costumes for all three of us in my dance group. They turned out amazing, so proud! I've only done maybe five real sewing projects ever
08/30/2011
Well, because I consider myself to be slightly new to sewing, none of the projects I'll have for everyone will be too complicated. I'm so weird with my skill level. I can do a really complicated applique piece just fine, but ask me to do straight stitching and I'm all over the place.

i hate sewing by hand, but i love my machine. i'm still kind of new to it, but it's such a fun hobby, especially when i'm really stressed out.
08/30/2011
I really can't sew nor do I have a machine. My mother rescues me when need be but I guess I should learn.

It was at Joann Fabrics. I wish they had all of the fabrics from the collection. You can find them online. There's a lot for sale on etsy.

I do both. I'm fairly good at it, too. I don't sew often though because I don't know what to make.

I'm not very good at either, but my mom's always trying to teach me.
