This last porn club was awesome. The guest were so sweet.

Now I'm lost! I didn't know those were free items to review....
Yeah, for the Porn Club you can get one or both DVDs (I think, I'm not in that club)

and in the Naked Reader club you get one or the other (your choice) of two books offered each month.

Then at the meeting, there are authors/actors participating in the discussion of the books/videos you just read/watched. It's a lot of fun.

And yeah, Starkiller, she mentioned at th emeeting what the options were for January and I sent in my request but haven't heard back. I didn't even get the email for December's, and I didn't really notice it was December already so I guess I skipped this month

Maybe have a survey with scoring in certain categories, but have the results not publish until after a mentor graduates 2+ students? That would help a little with anonymity maybe?

Nope, anybody can nominate anybody as long as the review is eligible. You can nominate any review that isn't yours on this current rumble as long as it was published between last Thursday and now. The next rumble can have nominations from between today and next Thursday.

It's part of my job, so don't worry about that. The harder part was just sitting down to get it done. I'd start and then get caught up working on another project, lol.

The reason I said "nominate someone with a low number of reviews" is because often times the new reviewers get overlooked. Which is too bad---I know DWTim nominated me on my third review and it made me really excited and I felt really accepted.

About the rumble - I think its great that we have some excellent writers like Antipova and several others whose names just escape me - but I have to say that as a newbie - getting nominated was a big big thing for me and I am trying to nominate newbies so that they at least get the experience and maybe will continue to participate and not get discouraged.

I read back through that meeting and I really liked Michael's attitude about everything. I even went all "fan girl" and emailed him, and invited him to the 50k party. He even posted! It was just one post, but I still thought it was really neat of him to show up at all.

Yes. With Porn Club there are two selections per month. You may get assigned one or both, and you're free to decline one or both if you are not interested. The only requirement is that you review the movie(s) and attend the meeting.

Oh! And I also forgot---I made this thread that has a few forum threads that I'm giving to my students now (Starkiller, I think you already know about most of these?)

But everybody should contribute their favorite threads, and show it to as many newbies as they like!

Or maybe if the results aren't made public? What about a system that lets staff evaluate mentors every so often, but doesn't show everybody all of the comments?

I guess my point is - I have several hours per day where I could be on the site doing something to encourage others or whatever. Just giving back because this place turned my life around. So if there was a place where I could find information on how I could help - it would be great!

I still am mad at him for being invited to Jim Hensons studio. I want to go soooo bad. UGH. hahaha. Yeah he had a great attitude though, I know some Edeners are still in contact on twitter and hes very friendly to them.

Yeah, a few times I've nominated someone (even people I've seen around a bunch, and I've respected all of their reviews that I've read) and then gotten a message saying "oh my goodness thanks for nominating me, you have no idea how much that means to me" or "I feel like a real reviewer now!"

I like that you have clubs that don't have to do with toys--like the Photo, Eden Cooks and the movie club. It would be nice to tell newbies about those clubs as well. So they can get used to the forums and the people.

I agree that the newer reviewers get overlooked, and I try to nominate them when I can, but I just don't get around to nominating anybody anymore really.

The advantage of the results being public is that prospective students can hopefully use the information to select a mentor that fits them better. Mentors are so different.

That's fantastic of you, and I really do think it makes a huge difference to the people that you nominate.

Maybe just pay attention to the newer reviewers and try to always drop them a comment or words of encouragement. The ones who are writing their first 2 reviews to be considered for advanced maybe.

For now, keep being active and supportive on the forums and wherever else you have been. If anything else comes up, I'll be sure to let you know

That does make a good point - that it would be good to see. I know my first mentor didn't work out so well - and that was discouraging.

You'd have to have certain categories "speed of getting back to student", etc. etc.

Yeah.

And give everyone a grace period of a few students, I know even the best mentors get unenthusiastic students from time to time.

Oooh - I can do this. I rarely vote to advance a reviewer - I did the other day though and thought the person did awesome for a first review.

As long as they sign up for newsletters, I think they get emails about community events each week.

Maybe knock out the lowest 5% of the scores or something (once they've had more students).

I just think that's so freaking awesome. And his wife's Etsy shop is freaking adorable. I'm going to buy something from there, but I'm just not sure what yet. I'm thinking the 8-bit heart earrings.

Any nerdy girls out there may like her shop.

This is true. What if then, the number was a little higher before that information was released? Maybe after 5 or 10 students rather than 2? I know that if you had given me feedback from my first two students, I would have been able to tell which was which.
