Unfortunately that's a possible hazard in any situation like that. But if you keep sending them to Sammi, she can make note of who should and shouldn't be allowed back in the program in the future.

That would be so helpful, I would join.

I think this is basically the place where you voice what can be done, give ideas and see if you can help with say writing a tutorial or whatever. Thats why we have these planning meetings.

I think the benefit of an official program is that people may be leery that a stranger contacting them might have ulterior motives. Whereas if they knew EF was having someone contact them, they might be more at ease.

Its why I keep going back and forth on it.
I think you'd do a great job, and if it helps any, that's something I struggle with as a mentor all the time. I see reviewers pumping out what amounts to carbon copies of their mentors reviews and that bothers me because we all have different styles. It's hard to find the line between being helpful and changing how somebody writes.

Yeah, not standardize it at all. But just having a little page that says

"Welcome to the mentor program. Some things that might help you out as you're mentoring:

-send your student a message before accepting the class to let them know they're really welcome. It can be a good idea to discuss
_____-whether the class will be fast-paced, slow-paced, or flexible
_____-how often you want to hear from each other
_____-whether feedback will be given or not (like I personally give a bunch of feedback, and never touch the review myself, right down to just including a list of typos that the student can fix)
_____-what aspect of reviewing the student wants to focus on

-your student will be more likely to stick around to graduation if they're active on the rest of the site, so if the student seems interested, show them
_____-your favorite parts of the forums
_____-the Naked Reader Book Club or Porn Club (as their desires lean toward) to help them get extra items to review
_____-other clubs, like Eden Lit and Eden Cooks, for fun
_____-Community parties and workshops
_____-

Ask if they have questions, have fun, etc

Thanks StarKiller but I guess the reason I'd like to see something a bit official is if everyone could get the same letter and it might say something like:

Welcome to Eden Fantasys. We're so glad you're here. In order to make your experience more enjoyable we've put together some information for you.

If you'd like to review products - click this link (takes you to ONE page which has all the various review types listed with brief description)

Not only do we have our forums on sex toys and topics but we also have the following clubs (brief description of each club and link to it)

Etc. etc.

Maybe she was talking about the people who reach out on new walls and in private messages? I know for a while I was welcoming people to the community as I found them, but I fell out of that habit unfortunately. Although rereading what you're saying, I can see that too. So maybe disregard this entire post, lol.

I only do it if there are multiple errors in spelling, etc. For instance - "To" in the title instead of "too" and maybe half a dozen misspellings.

I think I've sent her three or four at most.

We had also previously talked about some sort of post-graduation evaluation of mentors. Any new ideas on this?

I know I've sent her a handful myself.

Yeah thats what I mean. I also see on people who post their first review people usually say welcome to eden, tell them about the mentorship program and other things. Which I think is really helpful and considerate.

Ah now, that's a good idea!

If we were having a "volunteers needed to" list, we could include "read and comment on reviews from new people on low-dollar-value items that often go without a comment," and also "nominate someone with less than 10 reviews for the rumble, and show them the rumble thread."

Now I'm lost! I didn't know those were free items to review....

For the rumble do you have to have a certain number of review before you can be nominated?

I haven't really come up with any. This is also something that we've discussed on our end as well, and it's been difficult to try and come up with something that would provide honest feedback of the mentor without it being really easy for the mentor to figure out which student left it. Maybe something like a survey that pops up somewhere after graduation? Or an email?

I agree, but I've also seen people abuse this. For example, I've previously seen mentors do this to basically solicit students. Personally, I don't care for that, just seems a bit wrong to me.

I got a lot of encouragement on my first review, and that's what helped convince me to stick around a few years ago, so I know how awesome a "welcome to the community, maybe check this out" message can be.

Those are great ideas - but also - if I had known Julia was gonna be working on going through all the old meetings - I'd have offered to do it for her and save her time. I'm a speed reader - type 70 wpm and am home full time.

It might have saved her hours of work that she could put towards something else.

Yep! You can get one book or up to two movies free each month in exchange for your review and attendance of the meetings. And you can participate in both if you want.

Have you tried emailing Laurel again? I know one of the books was out of stock and just came back in.
